I don't think you can throw or feint to an unoccupied base without balking unless in the umpire's judgment the runner was making a legitimate steal attempt. At camps I have attended the consensus seemed to be if the runner passes the halfway mark he could be considered to have made a legitimate attempt. In that case I think a feint and then a throw to first could be legal.

I have been able to work many games with one of my very best friends, my 20 year old son. The best game was last weekend, a high school jv game where my 15 year old came in to pitch for the visiting team. I think any ideas of favoritism vanished when I called a balk on him for not coming set that led to the go ahead run.

I had a pitcher going from the stretch to start an inning. He came to complete stop on his first 3 pitches. Count now 1-2. He then goes straight from stretch into delivery. Nothing resembling a stop at all. We called him for an illegal pitch. He was called for the same thing later in the year. Similar to this one. http://m.mlb.com/video/v17074027

The umpire supplier at our Tennessee state rules meeting said that Reebok would no longer be making umpire shoes. Anyone else heard this? I kept waiting on zigs in the wide but now it looks like that will never happen.

Right, but he chooses to walk away and then he keeps turning to say something to Ross. If he wanted to keep on going at with Ross, more power to him. But don't turn to walk away and try to keep arguing as you walk away. Once you do decide to walk away, that ejected player/manager doesn't exist. That's what I have been trained to do.

Textbook up to the point where he ejected. But when he turns to walk away after the ejection he continues to turn back and engage with Ross. That should not be considered textbook.

Nobody has said anything about the runners being placed back at 1st and 2nd. The announcers were perplexed about runner placement. R2 never legally acquired 3rd at the time of the interference/out call on R3 because R3 was the runner who was still legally entitled to the base. So R2 is sent back to 2nd which in turn sends R1 back to 1st even if he had legally acquired 2nd. Is that right? Am I missing something?

Is this one a dead horse yet? Has anyone had to deal with it this season? Had a JuCo game where the pitcher went to this stance with a runner on 3rd. Partner balked him, twice. Coach about came unhinged. He said he has "had 7 games and nobody has called that!" He obviously didn't read his 2014 college baseball preseason guide.

I'm in TN but have not heard of the jacket on the dish mandate. If it's 50 or higher and I wear a jacket with my gear on I burn up. That won't work for me. :(
