Do you guys get a lot of coaches coming out to dispute judement calls?

Had a guy in 16u travel ball come out on 2 last night in the first inning.

I finally asked him why and his reply was " Just like the pros, I am here to protect my players and let them know I care!"

My reply was "First warning coach"

Isn't it the "out" call he disputed? :P

Close enough to be out. Good play.

Whatever! :smachhead:  He's disputing that he was safe! LOL :D

Did you just say, close enough to be out????????????

Not at that level!  No way

Has nothing to do with level, IMHO. If the call cannot be missed here, it cannot be missed anywhere, but just like here, this same play and same call is being made all over the US not only by the worst (whatever that means) umpire in a group, but also by the best (whatever that means) umpire in a group. The correct call is being made and the incorrect call is being made all over the country, whichever way one saw it on this play.

A better response would have been "When you get to the pros, you can go ahead and act like that.  We don't do that here."

Ummmm...yeah.  The guy at the end of the clip even said they had to look at the super slo mo 8 diifferent times before they could determine what the call should have been.  Even the first two replays shown at half-speed are inconclusive.

Definitely  was "close enough to be out."  I would much, MUCH rather call a runner out on this type of play than make an incorrect safe ruling.  Nothing will ruin a game faster than a bad safe call.  It almost never happens the other way.

I had a coach once come out and tell me "Great call Kevin, I just need to make this look good for my parents".  I told him "Ok Rob, thanks".

We stood facing the infield for about 10 seconds and he walked away.

Some things coaches do in order to feel like they are "in the Bigs".  :smachhead:
