The colleague inquired about rectifying it – not much can be done. It isn't exactly compromised; the material is strong enough to withstand impacts despite topical damage. Vinyl dip was suggested, but that would defeat the purpose of a magnesium mask like the FM4K Mag... it would thicken the bars, reducing visibility (further) and increasing overall weight.

It was a very savage and feral-looking mask, though, very befitting of The Road Warrior (Umpire 😃). So, I traded him! I sent him my black FM4K Mag and got this, the Silver Storm...

I was going to just keep it in my arsenal as a backup, since my primary now is and will be going forward the Davis Mirage12. However, it didn't stay in my inventory long; the first colleague that I showed it to was so smitten with it, he bought it on the spot!

Nope, I’m good. I mean, it’s venerable that Cuzzi used it for so long, and a fitting thing to do to place it in the BBHoF, but it’s just an old catcher’s mask. 🤷🏼‍♂️ 

It’s just as beat up as some of these ol’ hubcaps and lampshades that get “donated” to new umpires…

I'm back in the game after a several year hiatus. I've been using the F3 Defender for a few years as a men's league catcher, so it was a logical decision to replace my beat up steel Dyna-Lite with TW pads. Speaking as a catcher, the biggest adjustment to this mask was how much farther the bars were from my eyes compared with other traditional masks. Thankfully men's league pitchers aren't sitting 96 with a slider at 89.

Having read the @MadMax At Face Value treatise, I'm intrigued by the next generation of magnesium masks by Davis. I don't at present, however, feel the need to possess two high dollar masks (plus the trusty Dyna-Lite) to work 15-20 high school games. This is probably not in the spirit of the U-E community but it is definitely in the spirit of staying married.

Went from an All-Star Mag to a Davis Trace Hollow Carbon Steel with Tango2 Pads (the LUC pads and my face do not like each other very much). And today, I upgraded to the Cloud4 pads and switched my UMPLIFE harness from the Mag to the Trace.
