Issues here as well, seems to be during peak hours (4pm-10pm ET)
-
Guess what, it happened AGAIN
-
Apparently, the delivery service MLBU uses did not show up in time for the game, according to Dan Hayes. The truck did arrive later, and they changed into MLB-approved pants between innings. (Just in time for Baker to eject the Twins manager.) And this isn't the first time this has happened (see here). I'm about 99% sure the plate pants he was wearing were not smitties, based on the texture- maybe the old fechheimers? Still better than nothing.

The breakdown I was looking for, thanks @TheLovejoy

Nice look! Also, wasn't there a thread about a year ago about GD making a plate coat? Did anything ever take off with that?

Id rather get a concussion than wear a chinstrap /s

I’ve done that (bought medium pads from AS) and while it’s tighter, my hair ends up causing the helmet to slip in the back. I’ve played around with a frankenstein system of medium and large pads and that has partially fixed it, although i still prefer a hat.

I wore an all-star helmet (the umpire-specific one) during the fall travel ball season, and they are becoming increasingly common among travel ball umpires here in Atlanta. I liked wearing it, although I have moved away from it since it requires my hair to be shorter than I'd like, or it will slip off the back of my head when I remove my mask. If anyone has a fix for this or has experience with a Coolflo or another helmet, let me know.

im never doing it again

When I first started umpiring, I made an out call at 1st, and almost as soon as I made it, I heard my partner scream "NO HE'S SAFE!" and overrode my call without talking to me. Although this was 6u Coach Pitch, it was infuriating at the time. Also, this was 6u coach pitch playoffs, so 2 umpires instead of 1.
-
This just happened; Laz Diaz called 3-2 so loudly that the batter thought he called strike 3 and tapped his head to challenge, but Diaz did not grant the challenge.
-
Looks, wearing a skully without the mask on is an interesting look.
-
said Gen-Z umpire here, You are correct that a light comes on when they are recording; however, some products/businesses block/drill through the light, disabling it. The same goes for the Oakley Meta AI glasses.
-
The umpire would most likely notify them that the call was strike/ball and not grant the challenge.
-
In my experience, Davis pants fade much slower than Smitty pants.

Went from an All-Star Mag to a Davis Trace Hollow Carbon Steel with Tango2 Pads (the LUC pads and my face do not like each other very much). And today, I upgraded to the Cloud4 pads and switched my UMPLIFE harness from the Mag to the Trace.

Did some research (I looked at the website); this is 100% ai generated. The company that is being recommended ONLY makes CAR BATTERIES. -

electronic ball-strike indicator? where in the world do I get that? also; i hope im not the only person who thinks this is ai generated. -
Champro umpire packs are insanely popular among new umpires in my org, and most guys (unless mentioned by a boss or someone) have never heard of Davis as it’s easier to just search on amazon for umpire gear. Heck I didnt know about them until i joined UE. Hopefully this changes.

Agreed, interesting to see what other innovations they create

Since there's nothing really here discussing this, I thought I'd be the first to, well, talk about it. The chest protector is pretty darn nice comfort-wise. The neck area has some padding that won't rub my neck as much as my old Champro did. The hooks are pretty nice, and I adjusted to them pretty quickly. The rest of the chest protector is pretty much a normal chest protector, apart from how thin it is. Davis is not exaggerating when they say this is low profile, and as a skinny teenager, this fits me pretty well and doesn't make me look like I am a balloon about to pop. tdlr: love it, thanks @DerekGDS
