I didn't like the clicking noise that my plastic throat guard was making on my mask. Since my mask is black, I wrapped one layer of black athletic tape around the bar where the guard and mask would touch. No more click, and the tape is barely noticable.

Dremel and sandpaper....

Do not fret. Given the time you could cut apart a car with a Dremel. I personally wouldnt remove any of the protective features of my equipment for the sole sake of appearances but, to each his own. I wonder if this is the same guy that removes the air bag from his car to save weight and therefore increase his gas mileage?

Yeah, those supporting structures are probably there for a reason. The little weight loss was counteracted 10x by those pads, too. Odd choice.

Me, I like my old silver Diamond. That tank actually tore a ball apart, and was left with only a red skid mark on it. And it's probably within an ounce of the doctored titanium.

Wow, when you see it on an actual mask, it looks pretty odd.

in these examples the TG is attached higher up , not at the lowest bar . what is the logic for this ? and do most wear it this way ?

I do it that way on my Wilson. The logic is that I had a foul go down on the ground, and then straight up and hit me right on the chin. It wasn't so bad--similar to an uppercut from a woman--but it was still unpleasant. It also could have resulted in a throat shot. So, like Kyle often recommends, I mounted my protector on that upper bar, and it has a much tighter clearance when I'm in my stance. It will still hang lowly enough to catch on my chest protector's sternum plate on a straight shot. An added benefit is that it doesn't swing around when it's mounted up there.

The throat guard when placed on the upper bar fills the gap much better because it is closer to your chest protector.

I'm curious as to what the reasoning behind chopping off the inner part of the chin was? I think it looks pretty darn cool but was wondering if there was any purpose to it other than looking cool and reducing a bit of weight?

I did get this throat guard and initially did not like it. at 6.5in x 4.5in is was just too much...so...here is what it look like on one of my masks now.

Okay, I'm not even convinced that there is a value add to having a titanium mask, let alone a magnesium throat guard. Somebody convince me.

Its "cool" and for some its all the justification they need and for others it isn't. (I don't mean any judgement on either side of that.)  Some call it the "wow factor."  Its why theres more than one of almost anything.

Especially when you can see how a baseball can deform when striking an object at high speed.
