  1. I think it's an umpire mask
  2. I would venture it would be the exact opposite. The most noise I have ever heard on a ballfield was during a "train wreck" at the plate that did not include an EJ. I challenge anyone to come up with a situation that inclides more yelling from fans and teams than this. The famous, "Let em play" when you have to remove a player from the game.
  3. Take a serious look at the Force 3 Unequal's. I got a pair for Christmas and you can definitely see that they were designed by an umpire and they look like the protection will be outstanding.
  4. So, use no catch vice play it?
  5. Do you know of some company having a smoking deal?
  6. Still scratching my head on the issue with the Force 3 shin guards having hard plastic on the outside. Let me get this straight. Padding. Kevalr inside padding. And another layer of hard plastic on the outside of the shin guards in the front section. So, three different types of protection and there is some question about the protection this product is going to provide you? Seriously?
  7. I usually signal the safe signal and say play it loud enough for the batter and catcher to hear. If it's a check swing, obviously say yes he did.
  8. I have taken a few shots wearing that Wilson low profile, about five in the last week. It killed my jaws and after the last one that happened last Friday, my ears have finally stopped filling with fluid. I swear I felt like I was constantly changing air pressure in a plane. From what I have been able to see through research that double bar on the All Star doesn't hinder the viewing at all. Leaning that way.
  9. Kyle, besides the obvious protection you get from the kevlar in the shin guards? I said it before and here it is again. THE WOW FACTOR!!!!!! Who is going to buy boring looking products? If there was no hard shiny plastic on the outside nobody would buy them. As far as the heart issue goes, I had a six way bypass in 2008 and I feel extremely safe in my Force 3. I don't need to hear a big crashing sound to feel safe. I know it every time I take a shot. I had an original West Vest for years and years and nobody can tell me that they don't feel it when they get hit by an 85 mph fast ball. That is just an incorrect statement. The shinguards I don't trust are the All star system 7 lgu 2000. I was hit in the shins twice and it f*&^ng hurt like hell. Bought some Wilsons and sold the All Stars. Also had purchased the All Star cpu 4000 to com[pare with the Force 3 and liked the Force 3 better. Ah, collarbone protection. Look at the hard shells and let me know if you have anymore protection in that small amount of padding? You don't and will have no protection on any chest protector if you do not wear it correctly.
  10. Santa arrived earlier this afternoon, but he was dressed as a Fed Ex delivery man for some reason. He also has lost quite a bit of weight, shaved his beard and changed his name to Jose. Am I the only one to find this peculiar? Anyway, he brought me a new pair of Red Ryder bb gun Force 3 Unequal shin guards with a carrying bag and a compass in the straps. I tried them on and wore them for an hour or so. Guys, these are impressive. Very impressive. And as soon as I walked down the street in only a nutty buddy and shin guards my wife made me take them off and come back in the house. Merry Christmas to all of my fellow umpires.
  11. I realize there might already be a thread about this, but I need to see it on one thread. I am replacing a Wilson titanium low profile mask. I am debating the Wilson standard view titanium, the Rawlings titanium and the All Star titanium. Feedback on these?
  12. Response: "keep it...you may need it again to cover your ** gina" I'm have trouble imagining how you "made" a youth player hand over his cup. I guess the kid had to sit out the whole game. It was a high school fall ball game and he had just come out of the game. I discovered I wasn't wearing one when I was in the cutout at 3b and the throw hit the lip and was taking a direct line at Elvis and the boys. I quickly threw my mask over the area and realized the error of my ways. I will say that I had taken about five shots to my mask in the last week, including one that day, which I believe had affected me without taking it seriously. I realized it when I went to the grocery store after the game and realized I had left the car running as I entered the store to get my cart. My jaws are finally starting to relax and my ears aren't clogging up near as much. I wear a low profile Wilson titanium mask with TW pads, but will be buying a different mask soon.
  13. I forgot to wear a cup last Friday for the first time in my 19 years as an umpire. I made a bench player let me use his. It was like trying to fit a king size mattress into twin sheets. After the game I put it on the team bench as the coach was huddling the team in shallow left field. As I was leaving the field I made sure to yell loud enough for all to hear, "Hey, I left your thimble on the bench". And a good time was had by all.
  14. No kidding. That's just a little too overboard in my opinion. Way too much power. Way too much somebody having a big control issue. And, if you're talking about the Honig's polywool, 1.75" does fit through the belt loops. I wear patent leather to mach my leotards.
  15. Santa is bringing me some force 3 Unequal shin guards.
  16. That is wrong. Very wrong.
  17. Actually, the df fits fine on the Unequal. You have to swap out the clips, but other than that it is perfect.
  18. I took another shot tonight and my jaws are killing me. That hurt. you do realize you are talking about symtoms of a concussion. You need to take some time off to heal and go see a doctor. I know. I actually was nauseated a couple of hours after the game. So far, I won't have a game until the end of January. I will be braving Walmart today, so the symptoms may reappear.
  19. I took another shot tonight and my jaws are killing me. That hurt.
  20. I use a Wilson titanium mask and Team Wendy pads. It works very well. Took a direct shot this past weekend and the mask landed about ten feet behind me. No exaggeration. Was a high school show case and that pitcher was showing he could hit in the 90's. Still caused liquid to retain behind my ears, so I was constantly popping them. Felt like I was driving through the mountains.
  21. Same here.
  22. I'm really leaning towards these. Jim has a sale on them, plus I finally blew enough smoke up you poor bastard's asses to get a discount from them, so that's a pretty good deal. I have the CP and love it. I like that the padding can be removed/washed. And just FYI - I try not to run my ass off as much as possible. Thank God I have several 4-man games this spring. I used the lg 2000's and they indeed were very light. Great if you're running. Now, getting hit in the ankle was not a good thing. I was hit in the front of my ankle twice in the early part of the season and it hurt. Not a little hurt, but a , HURT. I umpire college ball as well and as good as the catching is, you never know how those 59 foot fastballs are going to react. I would recommend getting another pair of WV. As for myself I have asked Santa for a pair of Force 3 Unequal shin guards to go along with the chest protector. I love that chest protector.

    JOCKO???

I didn't call him. I just got off the phone with my mother in law and can't get her to work a jv game. She keeps complaining about being 80 years old. What a wuss.
  24. Bought it and it works. My s*%t smells like roses. Seriously, it does work really well.
  25. I have both and am equally impressed. When Smitty tells you that they run big, they actually do. I've found they both hold their color very well.
