  1. No wide sizes. On ebay a store called my shoedepot has a limited amount of wide sizes for $64.99. I have purchased form them in the past and they were good to me.
  2. So, you're saying he's not chasing after a deflected ball?
  3. Ok. Right out of The Rules of Professional Baseball: A Comprehensive Reorganization and Interpretation by Chris Jaska and Rick Roder A fielder cannot be protected if he is chasing a batted ball that has been deflected or missed. If' however, he is trying to field a ball that has been deflected by another fielder, he can be protected as long as he is not chasing after the ball.
  4. New Balance plate shoes are really good. Replace the shoe laces, though. I have yet to use NB plate shoes and not have the shoe laces shred by the third game and I have had 3 pair.
  5. He can chase the ball as far as he needs to. The only thing I can see at this stage is that though the manual Manny has quoted is generally an accepted source, it's not the rule book and is "only" a way of interpreting it. So maybe, MAYBE that interpretation is wrong. But I try to be a scientific person. I take the best data I can, and come up with the best way of understanding it I can. When that idea is proven wrong, or at least incomplete, I come up with a new one. When someone shows me a better way, I accept it. I know these discussions are meant to be what would you do based on your existing knowledge, rather than being who can look up the rule book and manuals fastest, but where's the reference that shows a fielder only gets one bite at the cherry? Actually, that shows he gets one bite except when he doesn't? Given the ball was moving towards BR, F1 was within a step and a reach of the ball before he was in that same range if the line. There's nothing that says he's got to give way to a runner when he's fielding the ball, but there is that says he can't be called for obstruction when he is fielding the ball. Nothing to do with your comment. Have you umpired in the states and , if so, how does the ball there compare? I have a friend who plays professional for the Pert Heat. Umpired him in high school ball many moons ago. He actually made it to the majors with the Yankees.
  6. I don't think we're goofy. Dang, we are all geniuses compared to the priceless experts on Youtube! Those remind me of the comments concerning Jim Joyce's obstruction call. Some, especially a guy in Northern California claiming to be a Div 1 umpire, kept saying that the third baseman was still in the act of fielding the ball when it was 40 feet past him. HUH?
  7. Hey, since we are retired Navy do we have to answer questions starting with the phrase, 'in my military mind"?
  8. And if you think we're goofy, you guys should read the comments on that youtube page. Priceless.
  9. Manny, how far can he chase the ball. I have obstruction on this.
  10. Can't believe I watched all of this.
  11. Why take all of the fun of watching somebody walk into a cloud of my handy work? What would be worse is if grocery stores were to use something like this in the frozen section. Watching the reaction of somebody having their nostrils peeled off of their face is priceless. Boycott Poo Pourri. Eat more chicken.
  12. Those helmets do look funny. I always point and laugh at them. But you are correct about these. And I guarantee you that they don't allow players to sharpen their cleats any more. Lou Gehrig would have lived a much longer life if he had worn a helmet. All of the changes for safety sakes are probably not working, but at least they are trying to make it safer for the players. And people saying it wussifies the game, hell we never wore seat belts when we were young and we're alive today. But how many thousands of people aren't? Strict codes kept the death toll of Hurricane Sandy at 72 in the U.S.. With lax codes in the Philippines is so far estimated at 10,000. Safety is a good thing, especially preventive safety. As a submariner I am very much in favor of stopping a disaster before it happens.
  13. Chad Krueter almost died from a home plate collision. He blocked the plate and walked away, but the next day while taking a shower at home he collapsed. It turns out he had internal bleeding from the collision. Get rid of that collision. There is no need for it and it is in no way wussifying the game. I don't think it is macho to hurt another player. I won't umpire MSBL just because a fifty year old man thinks it is important to break up a double play by wiping out the middle infielder. What the hell does it matter that the player may become so injured that he is no longer able to provide for his family? There is no need at all for a home plate collision. NONE!
  14. I don't think it is. It is very low profile whatever it is.
  15. Seems anything to do with Force 3 Unequal brings out the negative bandwagon. I'll be getting these shin guards in the near future. I have seen posts in the past about why does Force 3 have hard plastic on the outside if they have protection on the inside? The good ol' wow factor. And the bottom line increase comment? I believe that's what the reason for having a business is. The Force 3 gives you as much protection in the collarbone area as any other protector, you just have to wear it properly. As with other protectors, if it is not worn where it is supposed to be worn you can get damaged. I mean, was there no fracturing of the collarbone before the Force 3 arrived? Yeah, yeah, but do they come with the ball-repellent force-shield found in the chest protector? Cuz if they do, then it don't matta' how you wears it. I'm thinking the repellent must be installed. We haven't had one report of a baseball striking the shin guards. May the Force be with you.

  17. 20% of the challenged calls. Only one game had any overturned calls. I didn't see the game where the three plays were overturned, but I can't see them calling plays wrong just to see if IR would work. That is exactly what I think. I saw a ridiculous call in the first game which was challenged. The call was correct. A phenomenal call.
  18. 53 years. Wow. Hope all is well with you , brother.
  19. I can certainly understand these mechanics. If the teams can't then they should be in school trying to smarten up their smarten up parts.
  20. SNL made a comment on their newscast portion about the Cardinals losing to Mumford and Sons.
  21. Did you notice the smirk on the manager's face after the second appeal? I also think he might be trying to make a point.
  22. Why on earth would you even consider asking for help on this?
  23. USN MSC(SS) 20 years
  24. Thank you
  25. I would say that a big thing to do in school is to keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open. Show up in the cages any chance you get and study your ass off. Don't even go there thinking you know how to umpire. You don't know how to do it the way they will teach it. These schools are incredible. I wish I had the bucks to go again, just for the experience. You have no idea how much better you will be when you graduate. And for those going, good luck. Hope to see you in the bigs some day.
