A great decision. Let's knock the crap out of somebody to score a run. And, in the meantime, ruin a man's liveliehood.and possibly his ability to support his family. That run at the all star , an exhibition game, ruined Ray Fosse's career. A collision with Chad Krueter involved almost killed him. Get rid of that collision. What is the need to hurt somebody?

I'm not sure if it isn't Benjamin Button on third instead of a youth.

How in the world would this be inviting trouble? This is the reason it is taught this way in pro school. Stick to basics. When in doubt, stick to basics again. Rinse then repeat.

There are 2 things wrong w/ your statement, .... first, be careful, that may , or may not necessarily be true. Second, NOCSAE is only applicable to helmets (HSM's) and/or helmet-mask combinations, therefore, NOCSAE doesn't apply to us umpires I'm not real keen on their shin guards. I wore a pair in two games and was hit in both games. It hurt, and it hurt bad. I sold them later at a loss. Went back to Wilsons.

Loved it man. Especially the head shot. Now, if you can find them, cup shots are also great. Ha. Those are never funny to me. I can't understand why people laugh about them on shows like America's Funniest Home Videos. It hurts for cryin' out loud. Seriously, I really liked this video. Keep them coming.

Well, the first thing the umpire is doing wrong is allowing a left handed catcher.

Seriously check out the NB Mb1000. Most comfortable shoe I've ever worn on the field. Plus they looked very fashionable. Kind of Herman Muenster looking shoes.

I'm assigning a tournament next week and I won't use a guy more than two a day if possible. These are college umpires and they will tell you the game suffers after two. All of them have let me know that they only want to do two per day.

I call BS i dont really see how this is possible I called nearly every weekend you did and I know you took several weekends off or were TD for the weekend and didnt call much. Plus we had pretty much all of August off at TCA. I only did 345 games I can see if maybe you did 450 or maybe even 500 but I cant see how you did 623 games. Calling games every week night plus AAYBA helped get my game count back up. That was two weeks straight of 6-7 games a day for 6 days both weeks. That was 77 games alone in just a 2 week span. I also had 43 high school games not including summer ball or MIckey Mantel. Most of the games I got were in the spring when I wasn't doing much TD work. I was calling 8 games on saturday and 7-8 on Sunday every weekend. Trey did even more than I did. He got close to the 800 mark. You must be Superman. 6-7 games a day would be like 14 hours a day for 2 weeks??????? I don't think I have ever meet someone that can work a schedule like that and provide quality umpiring. Must be nice to be so young. Hope you have a good investment adviser to help make all that money your making work for you. I guess there is a new term to use instead of Game Whore. Game S L U T!!!!! It's my full time job I have to do that many games to get by. Trust me I'm not making that much money at all when you consider it's not a secondary job for a little side cash. The two weeks of baseball all day had a week off in between. I can assure you that the quality of umpiring doesn't suffer because of the number of games I do. I actually think I could probably squeeze in another game or 2 on those long days before I started to suffer from it. I guess that's where I have a problem with that approach...........your statement is that you could do more games before you start to suffer..........and I am assuring you that whether you believe it or not, it would be impossible for the quality of that many games to remain high if umpired by the same man..... . Last injury was Oct 2011. Your wife kicking you doesn't count! Now that's funny.

I have to agree with the quality of umpiring comment. There is no way that the quality of the umpiring doesn't suffer when you are absolutely worn out after working those 6 games in a day. Certainly doesn't help the kids.

Love NB base shoes. Use Reebok plate shoes. Own the NB 460 plate shoes, just prefer older model Reebok plate shoes. You might check out the MB1000 base shoes. I love the comfort and support these shoes provide.

Use a nylon scrub brush and hot soapy water. I always spray the surface dirt off first with hot water. If you want a great shine put a little baby oil on a sponge and spread it on them. Only issue is dust is more prone to stick to the baby oil.

Dude, when I first read it I thought it said $109.99. I thought, what the hell's so good about that deal? ha Always wake up, have your coffee and then comment. lol Smacking forehead with palm.

A big problem was that back then they were calling that pitch a strike. Looking at it once it was clearly outside. The same thing happens now when people refuse to call a high strike and everybody else get's crap when they call it. We have a guy who says he can't call the high strike. So then stop referring to it as a strike. For a while he would call 3 ft lane interference even if there wasn't a throw to first. HUH?

A whole new can of worms, huh? If I were an MLB umpire I would only approve this if it were umpires in the replay center.

Nothing like the backwards stepping catcher.

Disagree, Grayhawk. You just talked about the fed mechanics on another post. They sure as hell need to change those and move into the 1920's. Will you be in SCCUA this year?

The keeping your head on a swivel thing.

And if you can't find a shoe cobbler, take them to a peach cobbler. Oh man I'm killing me.

We've always used CCA since I have been in my HS association. What are the significant differences between Fed and CCA for 2-man? I ask because I hear we are being forced to move back to Fed mechanics this year or we lose our playoff assignments from the CBUA (California Baseball Umpires Association). I guess the biggest one is FED's insistence on PU covering 3rd on the bases empty triple even if BU didn't go out. What the hell else does BU have to do on this play? If there's an overthrow at third, who covers the play at home? Just a heads up. There is a new instructional chairman and he is a fantastic instructor. Knows umpiring like you wouldn't believe. He just stepped down from our unit in the Coachella Valley as there just isn't enough time in the day for him to be able to accomplish what he needs to get done. That means he has a job. I've umpired with him since 1998. I'm sure he may shake up some things in the CBUA as he's not a huge fan of the Fed mechanics.

I also am not a fan of the base umpire covering home after he goes out. Just stay out and keep out of the way. We've always used CCA since I have been in my HS association. If there's an overthrow at third, who covers the play at home? I agree. This is what they "teach". BU has runner through 2nd, and he'd have the play at 2nd if BR retreated to 2nd. Once BR has "committed" to 3rd, BU is supposed to circle around the 1B side of the mound towards home for a possible play there from an overthrow at 3rd. From the FED manual.. "On an extra base hit, take the bR only as far as 2nd base. U1 has him@3rd. Be alert for the runner returning to 2nd or advancing home on an overthrow at 3rd. Cover the plate for U1" I hate that mechanic.

And Brother, that is a smoking deal.
