  1. Never seen anyone look at their hammer or do it to the side. Just an observation. Mine is kind of forward and to the side. More to the side than forward honestly. Swinging third strikes, I do it all the way to the side. I dunno why I do it that way, just always have. I keep my head forward and on the field. I do called strikes this way because scoreboard operators around here are apparently deaf and blind because I used to yell strike pretty loud and signal to the front and on the next pitch I would notice a ball was put up instead of a strike. To remedy confusion, I moved my fist over to the side so the scoreboard guy could see it. I got sick of hearing "how is that 3 strikes?? the board only shows one!" Haven't had a problem since.
  2. For all you HSM people out there, I have a Wilson Shock FX with the glued in pads falling out due to all the sweat and heat from calling games this summer. I was wondering, what is the best to use to glue these back in that will last or is this an issue that you just have to keep fixing? Thanks
  3. I use Costa Del Mar RN11's and love them. Great in all lighting conditions and cut glare from the ground and other shiny surfaces very well. The lenses are designed to cut the glare off water when fishing and the technology translates well. I have used them in many games and wouldn't trade them for anything.
  4. I spray them down with scrubbing bubbles and let them sit so the cleaner can soak in. I then scrub them with a sink brush for a little bit then dry them with a microfiber towel. repeat if desired. Once they're clean I spray them with a cheap hairspray to get a good shine out of them. Easy process and they look great every time!
  5. I've got nothing on this play. Just an ugly train wreck and a tag out on R3. There's no way he runs after this kid and catches him from behind before he scores, so legitimate is off the table in my book. He'd have to be Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West, or Bart Allen. He's not trying to tag a runner, he's not running toward a base in an attempt to force or tag (see previous sentence for reasoning behind that one), and he's not attempting (the rule says "actually throwing" which makes me think he has to be in the motion of throwing, which he isn't) to throw home until well after the collision happens. He has no protection, play stands as it happened. Not that it mattered anyway they ended up with 2 outs and R1, R2 either way.
  6. Good call! He was in good position.
  7. I thought there was leg movement before he jumped and turned. I had a balk there. The one yesterday I didn't, I thought that was a little overly picky. There have been balks called this year on less of a pre-jump leg movement. Consistency on this front this year is killing me.
  8. I'm with everyone else, I'm just not seeing what was called a balk. The PU must have been picking a SERIOUS bogie to get that one.
  9. I thought watching it in real time that his hand beat the mitt. I said to myself "he's safe" and then the out call came. Having said that I would've been 3BLX as well and probably would've gotten an out there. Like @grayhawk said, you've gotta play the odds and use what you see from where you are.
  10. I wear a 10.5 and bought an 11 in these and they fit like a 10.5. Exact same shoe and I love them. I think a true 10.5 might have felt small. I wear a 10.5 and bought an 11 in these and they fit like a 10.5. Exact same shoe and I love them. I think a true 10.5 might have felt small.
  11. I dreamt I was a wigwam one night and a teepee the next. My sleep doctor said I was just too tense.
  12. Sumrall vs. Kossuth in 3A. Kossuth won game 3 vs. Independence 5-4 in 18 innings to get in. I had game 1 of that series. should be an interesting series. Good Luck!
  13. I agree with @johnnyg08. If he's set, he catches the second attempt and gets that call right.
  14. Who is playing in the 3A finals? Did Sumrall make it or did they get put out? and Good luck and don't suck!!
  15. he got hit in the hand during preseason and broke it. Look around the professional board, I think the video is floating around somewhere.
  16. I don't make my call until the catcher has started his motion to return the ball to the pitcher. That allows me to see everything that happens should the ball be dropped and gives me time to mentally process the pitch.
  17. mwahahaha Sorry lol
  18. I'd snatch them up, but I'm brokeded
  19. Darn you, @JaxRolo. That's what I get for not reading over the entire forum before posting a video! :banghead: But great minds think alike!

Sometimes, when its has rained and the parking lot will be wet, this Smitty even wears his plate shoes to the field If I'm running late, I'll wear my pants, plate shoes, and cup to the field. Just less I have to put on once I get there and saves time.
  21. I work with partners all the time who only use the MLB style shirts. Unless you're looking really hard, to the average spectator, you look like you're wearing the same shirt. As for the different shades of blue, They are VERY different looking. The powder blue is much lighter than the Carolina and you can definitely tell a difference in those two when worn together. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look like a professional. Just wear it right and no one will say anything.
  22. One thing not yet mentioned. I wouldn't be telling F2 where to setup. Sometimes I'll say, "I'm not going that far" to F2, but I don't coach and suggest where he should go to get strikes. I'll tell the catcher to "move it in just a bit and he's got it" I give the catcher the information he needs, what he does with it is up to him. I'll discuss with a catcher, because I want strikes. Strikes lead to outs. If a little hint on where he needs to be to get the strike helps with that, I'll give it to him. As for the OP, I thought it was handled well. You made sure the coach knew you were in charge and there was going to be no complaining about balls and strikes.
  23. How much for I can has shinguards?
  24. Safe! I thought he beat it in the real time footage, much less the replay.
