Incoming pitcher situational information relaying
Gfoley4 replied to udbrky's topic in Umpire Mechanics
I always found it kinda weird when umpires would do this to me when I came in and pitched. -

Nope, that's a common myth. There's no rule regarding that.
-
Yep. Here's a play I found while googling.

the only F*#Kup I see here is that the home plate ump called time while the runner was about halfway down the line. Maybe NYC ruled that the runner was going to make it in time even if he didn't rule it dead? Blue Jays playing under protest for now -

Yeah but this a MLB elimination game!! -
Your browser does not support iframes. If F7 flipped the ball to F8 and F8 drops it, would it still be a catch? Obviously doesn't apply in this situation because he caught it but I thought it'd be a good discussion http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/11493214/v497849583/milchc-schwarber-lays-out-to-rob-extra-bases

That angle shown needs to be in every ballpark. Hell, put it on every sideline in the NFL too. I've seen a lot of bounding balls like this that are very hard to tell with an off angle. (I presume that's the reason they're not reviewable as of now)

He was mad that time wasn't granted

Your browser does not support iframes. Just saw on Sportscenter that the Dodgers manager was told by the umpire that he "didn't believe in the neighborhood play"

Yes it was for the ball being lodged in the neck area. Guess there's no way to denote that so they just called it a balk. Since the strike remained on the count it obviously wasn't a balk
-
It actually bounced off the side wall and miggy threw out R1 at second. Kinda surprising Maddon didn't come out... I bet if he was in the first base dugout he would have

https://vine.co/v/epV1zL1wBTP hmm seems like this could have been called for a 2 base award for throwing glove at thrown ball

Your browser does not support iframes. Don't see this everyday... so if it crossed the foul line it be a pitch - ball four. But since it stopped before it is a balk and not a pitch.
-
It was because the replays from the home broadcast and in the stadium seemed to show that Rizzo had the foot on the bag. So all Maddon and his video guys saw was that. On the Chicago feed they had a good angle that showed Rizzo a few inches away from the bag and I'm sure New York used this angle.

R1/R3 under OBR. R1 goes on the pitch. Batter fouls it directly off catcher's mask and it bounces up towards 1st base dugout. Umpire first calls "foul ball" but then watches the catcher make a spectacular diving catch. R1 is standing on second and defense throws to first in an apparent appeal. What should be the call here?
