I would presume MLB’s line of thinking on on this play, and the many other plays where this has happened (although yes he does go pretty far this time), is that the runners doesn’t have eyes in the back of his head and doesn’t know where the ball is. Are there any citations in the various manuals regarding this? only time I can remember it being called was for a head butt by I think a diamondbacks player. I’m sure someone will find that. Here’s another no call example https://www.closecallsports.com/2023/04/runners-interference-with-thrown-ball.html

time stamp: 4:20 Anyone have obstruction on F2 here? Certainly not expected call but seems the runner clearly does a side step to avoid him.
-
What's the call? My deciding factor would be whether you judge the fall at :07-08 as a tag attempt. I think clearly in the first tag attempt they are not out of the basepath. (Assuming the softball rule is the same as the baseball rule here)

interesting 17 minute video about recent history of the strike zone and how’s it’s been applied. Balanced and stats based

im sure someone will find a better link. Curious if there would ever be a case where this is called obstruction instead of RLI.

debatable infield fly call, but looks to be pretty clearly (to me) as an intentional drop? U2 maybe shielded and could tell?
-
Good thinking, it's the second video in https://www.mlb.com/video/davis-multiple-throwing-errors?q=ContentTags %3D ["gamepk-634411"] Order by Timestamp DESC&cp=CMS_FIRST&p=0 After this, F3 threw the ball to F4 for some reason, and Bryant scampered back to the base before they could throw it back and appeal.
-
Just for another point of reference. April 20th, Mets v Cubs Bottom 5, Bryant groundball to third, U1 rules that F3 was off bag, and makes "Safe" and "off the bag" motions. B/R misses first on his way by, and they don't get the out. Haven't seen a video on twitter or anything but is maybe out there somewhere.

Related to this, has anyone had success with a particular brand or style of mask that reduces the amount of fogging in glasses? I understand you can pinch the nose, but the masks I've used have still become loose and fogging keeps happening.

automatic double, no difference between codes I believe
-
under high school rules (or others with no "in the act of fielding" provision), this would be obstruction, correct?
-
I believe the call on the field was an out (after discussion with the home plate umpire). I would say he got part of the base, but after review I guess they thought he didn't. I don't believe possible obstruction is a factor in review as well

is this really a balk though? Sure it looks so weird that I bet no coach would argue and there would be the same result either way, but just curious.
-
don't know what the official mechanics are but starting a few years ago some U2 in MLB will set up in a "very deep C", where they are on the edge of the infield dirt, to the left of 2nd base. then they'll come in straight towards the bag for the steal or double play chance
-
batter hits a line drive to the second baseman, he scoops it clean on a hop... is the batter out? Same rule applies, this is an uncaught third strike and the batter may try for first.
-
never heard of anything regarding courtesy runners not being able to run past first. it's purely a dead ball substitution.
-
might be a HTBT, but sounds like nothing would be correct. If the pitcher had possession of the ball and was just attempting a tag, play on.
-
Incorrect ruling, you can be out of the basepath only when the team is attempting a tag on that runner. A runner may be ruled out for abandoning their effort to run the bases, but it is usually only applied in baseball when the runner enters the dugout or clearly runs across the field thinking they're out. But googling the ASA softball rulebook, they seem to state the runner would have to reach the dugout to be ruled out. Edit: correct->incorrect *

yes this is good rule to have 100% down, it comes up a decent amount in levels where they've just introduced the D3K at that level. OBR or OBR based rules such as Babe Ruth League: Leaving the "dirt circle" around home plate = OUT FED: entering dugout = OUT
