I've seen this exact situation happen with a 3 man Division 1 crew. Mind you, this was a field that there was not a lot of "trouble" possible down the LF line, no openings etc. Hot shot, U3 rules fair and keeps his eyes down the line while walking backwards to cover third in event of a triple. U1 rimmed outside and took B/R into second. I posted about this play when it happened, and was told it was an advanced mechanic.

Similar topic, I've noticed that MLB has seemed to shifted their philosophy on going out on every fly ball. This year you'll see a bunch of umpires "wave off" a potential rotating umpire for a routine fly ball in their area.

Yes, as long as he's not delaying the pitcher in warming up by talking to him or whatever. If so, he should be warned and then charged with a mound visit/defensive conference

Pitcher can't come set like that, but the penalty for this is "don't do that." The umpire should call time when this happens and force the pitcher to re-set. If the the pitch came to the rubber with his hands apart like usual, then came set, it's fine. The way to get around the "pitcher pitching while runner is dusting himself off" move is to have the batter request time.

okay, so maybe the ruling in OBR is slightly different, but I was under the impression that the only way you could have interference resulting in an out for a thrown bat is when the interference is on a batted ball, not a thrown ball. But, alas I look at the rules and comment 5.09(a)(8) says: So is that situation an out in OBR as well? Pretty sure I made a topic here years ago for a very similar play you described and the consensus was "play on"

I mean U2 is right there. Presumably he would have sold the heck out of the IFF if he made it, and R2 would have been able to hear him, even if he can't see the signal.

simply say to them in between pitches that you don't need to hold the pitch. Most of the times I've said that they've always stopped, aside for maybe one or two that were so engrained in the habit that it was hard to break.

look up an "advantageous fourth out" situation. I've seen this happen in high school before, but the runner on third didn't realize what he could have done and actually negated the run.

And to add on, the only part I could find specifically mentioning "unintentionally" is Casebook 8.4.1 Situation A: "After bunting a ball, B1's bat, which is still in his hand, unintentionally strikes the ball a second time on fair territory while (a) he is still in the batter's box or (b) he is outside the batter's box. Ruling: (a) is a foul ball (b) the ball is dead and the batter is out" But, this situation in the OP seems a bit different as the bat is not in the batter's hand when the second contact was made.

do you have a cite? What you said is my understanding of the rule, but I couldn't find anything regarding this particular situation in the casebook nor rulebook.
