  1. I had the plate Saturday morning and....got hit in the face. It was awesome. I had the iX3 diamond mask with stock pads before and never really felt anything other than a light impact when I got hit in the face. Now with the Wendy Pads...I wasn't sure I even got hit until I realized my mask was on the ground. Very awesome.
  2. Oh I see.
  3. What do you mean? Other companies make "the long-sleeve shirt."
  4. Pretty decent deal on the craigslist stuff. As for the hockey style mask (HSM) usually the umpire version is solid black and has a titanium cage. I have a catcher's version and it work fine and costs half as much. Mine is also solid black. ( I have an All-Star 2500)
  5. It has been in the 30s and 40s and windy as hell here in Kentucky and everyone in my association is clamoring for my (Smitty) thermabase. Especially when they hear how much cheaper it is than the majestic one. All I wear under it is a short-sleeve compression shirt and I feel perfectly comfortable.
  6. I just ordered the pre-loaded silver mask from Honigs and I cannot wait to get it (again). They sent me one already, but it was black instead of silver. But as usual, when the rare mistake happens, Honigs fixed it right away and are sending me another one without me having to send back the other first. Very awesome. I tried on the black one and I have to say, it is an awesome fit. I really like the "memory foam" like qualities of the pads. I can't wait to get hit in the face (which has happened a lot lately...bad catchers).
  7. ...that explains so much
  8. I do mostly to remove the occasional scuffs from errant pitches and foul balls. I avoid making it shiny by using 3M rubbing compound (it also fills in fine scratches).
  9. I have a 13-inch douglas and like UIC, when I stand, I am very exposed, but when I am in position everything is covered very well (I am 5'10" by the way)
  10. In certain brands I used to have to buy the combos just wear on the bases because the base pants were so tight in the legs. They seem to cut a lot of those brands bigger these days so I now do plate and base pants only.
  11. FranklinT is correct. You can buy those new on Ump-Attire for $89.99
  12. I work as a newspaper page designer. I was a sports writer (I covered UK basketball, football and local high school sports). I also did a fair amount of photography too. When I moved to Newport, Ky. for my wife's job, I went to just designing pages from home. It allows me to have A LOT of free time for game every day of the week except Saturday nights (I have to put together Sunday's paper then).
  13. This is near me...
  14. Another great transaction to add to FranklinT's resume' as well.
  15. I dealt with the same person and got mine (after refund) for about $20 as well. That was over a year ago. He claimed they "just" ran out of the ones in the pic yet he has yet to change the picture.
  16. Would someone post a pic of the retrofitted gold or platinum worn? I am curious just how much less bulky it looks compared to the stock CP.
  17. I used this for the first two years calling high school. I never called above JV then and it was fine. But Jax is right...any higher up than that, and you are asking for trouble. I did a JV tourney game once and a kid was throwing around 80 or so (it was at a MiLB park with a radar gun that showed the speed on the scoreboard). I took a foul to my chest and bought a hardshell that night. It didn't bruise or really hurt that much at all, but it made my heart feel funny for a moment and that was enough.
  18. Like we say in Northern Kentucky....call some F------g strikes!!!!
  19. The DLG-LITE 17" inch version from Diamond has been re-configured for 2013. We were only carrying the 15" but hope to have the 17" in stock for 2013. If you buy the 17" from wherever, make sure it is the one that has the shell in the area below the knee and not just foam. The Diamond double-knee DLG shin guards are also a great shin guard if you're looking for complete value. They do the trick for under $40. http://www.ump-attir...ode=SHIN-GUARDS Good. I know a lot of people that didn't buy them just because of that. Ought to be a bigger seller now. I can also vouch for the double-knee DLGs as well. Many of the people in my association use them for both high school and college ball.
  20. These are the ones I have. If you can use the 15" they are great. Very light, very inexpensive and I have taken an 85 MPH pitch on a direct shot and felt next to nothing. http://www.ebay.com/...=item232192feae If you have to bump up to the 17" there is a gap below the knee cap that makes them next to useless.
  21. LFU definitely called it first...
  22. I watched the replay several times and it looked to me the the third base umpire was calling the IFF at the same time as the LFU. So it may not have been a bad mechanic by LFU but just echoing the call in a loud stadium.
  23. By the way...there is no such thing as a Canadian goose (unless of course it was born and resides there). They are CANADA geese. And that concludes your ornithological lesson for the day...
  24.
  25. It must be monogrammed because Jason took mine back with no problems.
