I ordered the D3O Cloud 4 Cores with the suede/microfiber sock.

I'm looking forward to something different this spring. If you already have them, what can I expect?

Thanks!

The above post might help if this is your first set - can be a little tricky getting the pads into the socks. Had to compress and cram them in. I am impressed but haven’t worn them for a game yet.

Don't work in the kill zone!

I rewatched it, and to be fair, @AL-Ump is working straight over the catcher. It became the kill zone because the catcher collapses down onto the batter's hands for the inside pitch. Also to be fair, there's not a lot of wiggle room in a college softball battery. These girls get super close, and we male umpires are put at a... spatial challenge.

Not to steal the thread, but it was suggested to move more onto the plate in a camp over the Summer by a National Coordinator (outside ear on the outside of the plate).  There are some that work there 100% and you DO get a good look at both sides of the plate, but you will get smoked as I found out first hand.  Been there this Fall and have been hit in the mask twice and in the chest once.

I am making an adjustment this weekend to be back more in the slot.

I don't think anyone disputes that it's a better look, but at what cost? A $90 - $250 game fee?

No thanks. I'll stick to the slot.

I wonder if said coordinator actually works as an umpire or just coordinates. I can't keep track of how many balls zip pass the outside of my mask when I'm in the slot. This coordinator's suggestion puts you IN the line of fire. The slot gives us an element of safety (prayerfully, we're behind a good catcher) as well as a good view of the plate. Just my opinion. You gotta do what works for you.

I’m looking on the site. How can I order these pads? I only see them listed with the mask.

Maybe Derek can help explain but there’s different items on GerryDavis.com and Davisofficials.com

All the new mask pads/socks are on Davis Officials

The cost of game fee if you are lucky . . . the cost of an ER trip if not.

Yes, off the top of my head they fit:

  • Nike Ti
  • Wilson Frames
  • Davis Trace
  • ZRO-G

And GNBA just asked the $1,000,000 question...

... that not enough of us ask...

... but should be...

Funny, so casually we concede that "You have to work what/how your association (lead / assigner / admin) tells you to." Hmmmm... 🤔

Oo! Oo! I can!

DavisOfficials is solely Davis-brand items, and predominantly the "latest-generation" stuff that Derek and the team have been feverishly brewing since 2022(?... 3?).

GerryDavis is the "long-standing" storefront, that not only is assorted with Davis-brand items, but also all the other brands that a frontline gear retailer is expected to carry and offer. The information and details can be more in-depth and dynamic on DavisOfficials, while GerryDavis, everything has to be concise and able to exist in a snapshot-amongst-snapshots. Accordingly, "gear packages" or arrangements are found on GerryDavis, due to the one-stop-shop effort for new umpires, or those whom said packages & arrangements are constructed for.

I can fully endorse this reply as accurate also.  I have just done a bit of shopping from both sites as I needed the latest & greatest and some other non-Davis items.

It is a bit difficult to find some of the specialized gear (Kuta, cloud pads & socks, etc.) on the regular site, but super easy on the officials version.

Yes, the Davis site is only Davis equipment and apparel and will be the only place to get our Limited Edition pieces and NASO Member benefits. Right now, it is in a minimally viable form. In the future it will have:

  • More technical content
  • Better content comparing various product lines
  • Product breakdowns
  • Memberships (yes they will provide value)
  • Early access to new products

It's all evolving in time but anything Davis branded is available there.

Gerry Davis Sports remains a full retail experience.

Wait.

Is that where I was supposed to look for the pad socks? I've been looking on gerrydavis.com...but didn't even know about davisofficials.com...

Same here. When I went to order the D30 LE I initially gave up since I couldn't find it on GD site but then went back to emails / Derek's posts on here for the direct link.

Yes, I apologize @834k3r @Velho. They will be made available on gerrydavis.com as well just got quite the backlog across the org at the moment!

I had better luck on davisofficials.com personally. I did find some new Mirage gear (frame, pads, etc) on the normal GDS site also - but had much easier shopping on the officials site for cores & socks, complete frame options, etc.

No apologies needed. I get the brand separation. Just letting you know my experience.

Agreed. No apologies needed--I didn't have any awareness of the davisofficials website. Now that I do, I'm good to go!
