Has anyone tried them yet? I keep getting emails advertising them. They intrigue me.

I bought a pair yesterday. I will let you know as soon as I get them tailored.

@concertman1971 has his base pants tailored this way.

Tailored and tapered is the way. I bought the new Davis V2 Tapered and ordered the BFX Tapered. Pricey, but now I dont have to pay the tailor to taper them for me.

If you have big legs or you aren't at least a little bit trim, flat front tapered are not for you.

Glad we got that sorted!

In all seriousness, I haven't gotten hands on the Smitty's yet. All I know:

  • Three colors (Dark Grey, Charcoal, Heather Grey)
  • It appears to be their lightest fabric
  • It has more Spandex than any other pant on the market
  • There isn't a size chart so no direct comparisons against the standard cut

Jim probably has more answers on this than anyone at the moment but a fairly light fabric and extra stretch. I'll be very curious to see how this holds up certain environmental conditions.

I’d take this new Davis company’s products (they seem to have changed a lot lately) over Smitty in terms of quality on pretty much everything.

I am 90% certain I am going to get a pair of these prior to the start of the season. As a Real Man of Carriage, I am not a fan of the standard cut of the Smitty base pants which still have a large leg and bottom cuff and I don't want to pay additionally for that fully tailored look. I'll provide feedback if and when...and likely others will be well ahead of me on that.

Oh reeeeaaaaalllly? Huh! That’s what alllllll the college PTBs want/imply/direct/order their umpires to wear. I mean, yer just not a “with-it”, “team-playin’” umpire unless you are in full compli… er, uniform.

Pay additionally? It is unavoidable. It is our destiny. Four things assured in the umpire life… death, taxes, travel, and… paying exorbitantly to “look the part” to someone else.

Well, it's all a moot point apparently because Real Men of Carriage need not apply for the tapered base pant due to their "size-ist" practices and policies...

I did see some REALLY nice tapered, flat front charcoal pants at Costco. I am SOOOO tempted to get them to wear them for HS games. Would anyone really notice????

Not around here. You can probably wear grey corduroy and no one would say anything…… as long as you have the right logo on your hat, and correct stripes on the shoulders of your jacket. 😁

Ok I got mine today. The material is noticeably lighter than the previous poly-spandex pants from Smitty. It is a nice fit.

I am not a small man, these will work for you just fine.

I did work a game with a guy who wore grey cargo pants.  Like was said in previous posts, I'm just impressed he didn't use the pockets for ball bags.

I ordered a pair and they arrived today. Be careful..I didn't read enough.

I ordered these thinking they didn't have the expander waistband which I'm not a real fan of, and not realizing they are NOT charcoal grey by any stretch of the imagination. And they have an expander waistband. I exchanged them for this style . I'll have to deal with the expander waistband, and I'm hoping this one is charcoal grey and note some light grey almost Tweed looking color.

If they are the 32 Degree brand, get em. I have had a pair for years. Wore them often when I was still a HS teacher/coach & they still look great. Last season was wearing as travel outfit to a college date. In locker room I got to noticing how much better they looked than my “wind sail” Smitty base pants. So I put them back on & have worn them every date on bases in college & HS since. Still look as good as day I bought them.  No fading. Recently purchased Davis BFX Pro plate pants inn NCAA charcoal flat fronts & when side by side the 32 degree brand from Costco is an exact color match in flat front slender look.

That looks to be almost a heather grey in color.

Right? It’s like a mix of heather and charcoal. It really looks like tweed. I don’t understand what they were aiming for here, but whatever it was, it missed the target.

Is it actually poly spandex? Doesn't come close in pictures and looks nowhere near what the pics on Ump-Attire portray. At least in the shade.

No they are not. . That’s what threw me. They have two pleated tapered “charcoal grey” base pants. Only one says poly spandex. This “tweed” pair just says  “charcoal grey”. I picked that one because I don’t like the expandable waistband, and this one didn’t say expandable waistband. I just assumed they were poly spandex. Plus, they do have an expandable waistband. You have to read the whole description (which I did not do) to find out they’re not poly spandex and they do have the EW. They claim the color matches charcoal grey pants. It’s obvious they don’t.

If you really blow up the UA picture, you can vaguely see the “stripes”  of dark and light grey. In person, as you can see from my picture, they don’t come close. If I walked on to a field with them my partners would say “what the hell happened to your pants!”🤣

UA just made a post on Facebook showing the different styles. I'm going to be honest, I didn't look close at mine when I got them, but I don't remember them looking like yours.

Apparently there are 3 SKUs for this style pant. Charcoal, Heather, Dark Grey.

Sorry UA...But the "CG" doesn't match any umpire pant known to man. (or women)

That CG looks like a pair of shorts I bought at Sam's Club a few years ago.  I wore them to the ballpark one hot summer day, and a fellow umpire asked me if I was going to wear them to umpire in.

I said, "NO!  Why would I . . . huh, umm . . . they do look . . . huh . . . NO!"

Probably would look ok on the softball field.  :stir
