Getting Coach to replace Catcher

14u travel ball for the age this pitcher is bringing it pretty good.  1st inning inside fastball catcher does not get a glove on hits me right in my chest protector.  He has a few more he does not glove but they don't touch me.  3rd inning the kid throws another inside fastball no glove by catcher and drills me in my thigh. It hurt like hell then and even more today.  Coach pulled catcher then and there.  My question is what can you do if the coach does nothing and continues to not catch the ball and you end up getting hit.  I know what I would do if I felt I was intentionally getting hit but what can you do when it is not intentional but just bad catching.  Just to add must have been my night I was hit in the mask with 2 foul balls also.  Before anyone asks I checked with my partner to make sure I was not drifting out of the slot and he said no just not my day.

Happens to me in fall ball every now and then when I work at the local wreck league. The pitchers are always better than the catchers. Before I got to the coach, I would try to talk to the catcher, especially at 14u. I'd say something like "You're killing me back here. You gotta get a glove on those or I'm not gonna be able to give you a good zone." Hopefully he gets it, if not and you keep getting hit, call time and tell the coach we need a new catcher. The real question is what do you do when the coach says he's the best catcher on the team....

Do what you gotta do to get out of the way and protect yourself. If that means jumping and ducking and assuming every ball heading your way is going to find you, then do it. If their strike zone for their pitcher becomes the size of a soup can? Well, too freakin' bad.

I had that happen to me at high school JV a couple of weeks ago. I was about ready to grab the back of his straps and use him as an outside protector. Coach said he didn't have anybody else, so I was just jumpy all evening.

I go to my alternate slot position...the spot between the batter and the dugout. 
No lie, I'm on the other side of the batter. If F2 makes it look good, strike, if not, ball.

Hahaha....I have done exactly that too! Not halfway between the batter and dugout, but just the other side of the batter. I watched how the catcher caught the ball (or not). If it looked good it was a strike! Hey, if the coaches/fans can do such a good job from the side...

And, I didn't get hit anymore!

My partner commented on my alternate slot position (and I too am just on the other side of the batter). I asked him how was my KZ. He said I didn't suck anymore than usual. It's all about consistency.

The OHC smiled as he passed me on his way to the dugout after the half inning, and made it clear he understood and was ok with the strike zone! haha

This was a rec league 11-12 yo game, with F1 throwing too hard for F2 --- and F1 was wild to boot!

Me to catcher:  Each time I get hit, the strike zone gets a lot smaller.

Me to coach:  If I get hit again, the strike zone will be the size of a Cheerio.
