Probably lost his ball bag and all he could find was blue?? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I think this has been observed before, maybe even with this ump. I used navy with black my first year umpiring. My navy was a lot darker than his. MLB umpires can do nothing wrong fashion wise unless they wear white socks. Or don't wear undershirts. Never mind about the undershirts.

yes this has been discussed before....i posted it and jeff posted it once..the consensus was when your getting paid 6 figures to umpire you can wear whatever the hell you want. although i wouldn't be caught dead wearing navy w black

Didn't lots of HS umpires use black ball bags with navy shirts for a while?  Didn't all MiLB umpires use black ball bags with navy shirts for a while?  I'm not really sure how this is different.  I know quite a few umpires who get worked up over this, and I'm not quite sure why.

Well, I wear black ball bags with my navy shirt in HS ball. But, my shoes, my belt, my socks, and depending on what my partner has, my hat, are all black.

So not really mismatched.

Where else do you see navy on his uniform? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Tapatalk

Yes, that's Culbreth and he does it ALL THE TIME ...and yes, I brought it up once, ......

The funny thing about bringing it up was .....  people HERE were saying "it's the lighting, that's not blue, plus, who cares?"

:banghead: ....... and the consensus wasn't that "if he makes 6+ figures he can wear what he wants" ....it should be the opposite .... "you make 6+ figures, dress like it"

Actually, I'm surprised MLB allows him to wear this

Exactly.  It doesn't look good regardless of what one makes.

Maybe Mrs Culbreth handmakes 'em, and Cubby is committed to modeling them on her behalf? We should look on Etsy. This is likely a way to show them off and get notice in lieu of challenging "the big gold W". Why is Barrett's CP bright blue?

We just fell into the roots marketing trap. Way to go, @Umpirechick1 and @Thunderheads.

CP's don't matter @MadMax ...that's a Carlucci .... it's "allowed" :D

Did Cece also make ball bags?  Maybe it's an honor to him.

He did. Mine is a true classic (and one of his firsts). He made it backwards. The only way to put it on the belt resulted in the back of the bag facing outwards, and there was no way to put balls in it.

As it was already stated that's Cubby wearing the navy bags. He always has worn navy bags since becoming a big leaguer. He wears the same bags that he did when thy wore navy and never switched to black. He simply likes his ball bags too much to change and considering hat ball bags are changing all the time when companies change manufactures it's not that hard to understand why someone wouldn't want to change if he already has a set he likes. It's really not a big deal. No one ever notices all that much except some of us on here.

Yeah, some would think that if you make that much, you can wear whatever you want.  I think you should at least look good, no matter what level you work.  I don't care if I had to work a t-ball game, I'm going to match.  I'm in the camp of those who wish MLB would mandate that they match.
