This afternoon, I had a varsity pitcher that was consistently missing low or inside. The fans were very Little-Leagueish, complaining about everything--even when pitches were hitting the dirt. F2 was getting frustrated, and he let out a protest of a pitch that was about an inch low. I told him that those weren't strikes...to which he said, "Because you're a SH*#ty umpire."

Too easy...unfortunately.

Did you have to fill out a report?

Was it an inch low, or an inch low of low?  AN inch ain't much

Open the zone!

It is when the glove moves an inch. It isn't when the glove doesn't move.

Get the strike

Why is it when people who have been around the site for quite some time and we basically know their background, get questioned from a DESCRIPTION from which has no picture, no video, no nothing?  None of us were there!  Why are you questioning Matt's strikezone?  He said the pitches were low, they were low?

@umpstu , @bam .....  come on guys ...... :no:

By the way ....  GOOD EJ!

So you ejected F2 for his perspicaciousness ?

I'm not really questioning his zone.  I think the point I was making is that if you're calling pitches to the inch, then it's gonna be a long day.  I realize that there's a point at which you can't "get" a strike, even though you've been grabbing the outside/inside/low/high strike all day.  But me?  I'm just going to describe it as "I just can't get THAT because it's TOO low/high/inside/outside"

And while I can quibble with too much description on pitch location, I'm just DYING to know exactly HOW you EJ'd the douchenozzle kid.

As mentioned above, Joe West had a pretty succinct way of EJ'ing a catcher.  "You're gonna need a new catcher." seemed to have worked well.  A douchenozzle catcher, at that!

What immediately came to mind was Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back...

Luke Skywalker is dueling Darth Vader, and makes a misstep to fall into the carbon-freezing injector pit. Vader turns, and coolly says, "All too easy."

Ok, that's all fine and well, and I doubt anyone disagrees. But the line has to be SOMEWHERE. And wherever that line is, there'll be a pitch that's an inch below that.

He says it was low, it was low for him that day. And even if it wasn't, the little snot-nose can't respond this way.

That's pretty much it. I was having no problem getting the low strike. This was about an inch lower than where I was willing to go (or if I were to rephrase according to Bam, if it were an inch higher, it would have given me something to think about.)

He got heaved. While I wasn't looking for an excuse to shoot a monkey (I was actually laughing to myself about how dumb they sounded,) given the amount of whining going on, I took advantage of the opportunity.

Good ejection...but I'm always afraid to dump a catcher...because if they had a better one he'd be in there!  It might be a healthier choice to bend down and brush off the plate and look the little turkey in the eye and get it straight.

No way in hades I'm keeping a player around, especially a catcher, after saying something like that directly to me. I don't care if it results in Swiss Cheese Tommy coming in to replace him.
