So get all the funny stuff out of the way, then answer my question.....

I am at the age where my arms are not long enough to hold the lineup cards and read them. I wear progressive lens glasses daily but just have the reader prescription in them. the top is clear.....

I don't feel comfortable wearing them while behind the plate, as there is a spot where you can't see clearly at a distance. Maybe this is just my newbie nerves, but is there a good way to wear glasses at the plate meeting and just sunglasses or no glasses during play?

cue the "Three Blind Mice" here...

Thanks,

I haven't found an answer to your question, I'm just trying to make do at the plate, always making sure I get the darkest copy!

Never seen just readers at a conference.

For PIAA games officials must read a sportsmanship pledge at the plate meeting.  It is on the back of you officials "membership" card.  It is so freakin' small that I had to re-type it with a bigger font and laminated it.  Now THAT version is getting difficult to read without reading glasses.

I think more schools should install a jumbotron and project that thing up there for us geezers.

Look around online and you can find business cards with a magnifying lens in them. They're slightly thicker than a regular business card, about the thickness of a credit card, but should fit in your lineup holder with no problem.

Lasix!  I used to keep a pair of reading glasses in my ball bag until the Lasix.

Thanks,

Get new glasses which are for the new and correct prescription.  I wear them, transitional as well.  You can get these at costco for under $200 and they fit under the mask.

I get around this with mono vision contact lenses.  I was to a point that I needed readers with my contacts.  One eye is corrected for distance (dominate eye) and one eye is corrected for reading.  It was a little funky during the adjustment period but now that I am used to them I don't even notice (except when I get them in the wrong eyes) :smachhead:

IMO, If you need them for reading then use them. No big deal. Remember this is coming from a guy who never wore contacts before he started umpiring and then wanted to reduce the ammo for the coaches.

Also at the Target pharmacy they have them for free. My kids seem to grab one every time they are there.

This shouldn't be. Get an eye exam, and a new (better) pair of progressives.

I have the opposite problem. I can see the lineups just fine. It's the distance stuff I have an issue with. I wear contacts so I wind up with the SAME problem you have - I can't see the damn lineup cards!
