Anybody else have a bit of depth perception when getting in the B&C position on skin infields,  I always once I find the spot scrape some of the infield a few times till I have enough footprints  in dirt to go to.

I never saw "skinned infields" in the 70's and early 80's. Was married from 1985 until 2010. Never saw a "skinned infield" during that time either. Ever since then I've played almost exclusively on

Alan, I do have this issue on intermediate sized skin fields. Sometimes it feels like my ideal position is in the basepath.

So many small(er) baseball parks cheat and do a skinned infield, and then put in tufted peg anchors for the various base lengths. Worse, they put in three or four different pitching plates.

I guess so .........hell, I'm 49 and never heard "skin infield"

 

 

And I'm 70 and have heard it called skinned infield as long as I can remember.

Never heard the term skinned infield, we always called them dirt bowls, dust bowls, dirt infields. Take your pick.

Maybe a regional thing? Always hear all dirt infields referred to as dirt infields. If someone had not detailed it out in the post somewhere I would still be scratching my head.

Sorry maybe it a north east or jersey thing has been called a skin infield for as long as I have been on a field ,since I was 8 and Iam 59

Nothing wrong with a LH catcher. Only to stuck-in-the-mud traditionalists.  ;)

Regional language is a fascinating thing.  Crimes have been solved by it.

 

There's even some "quiz" on the internet that can tll weher you're from by asking how your pronounce a few words (is your mother's sister an "ant" or an "awnt"?  Do you drink "pop" or "soda"?  Do you get a drink of water from a "bubbler" or a "fountain"?  etc.

I've heard people talk about the "skinned portion of the infield" before but never "skin infield." I've heard "skinned infield" in the more colloquial sense.

Okey Dokey, now fer a leeson in some local southern lingo:

It's a "skint field" or "the field's done been skinndid for the game"

Think I'm joking . . . don't ya . . .
