"A Massachusetts high school hockey coach was arrested Wednesday night following an alleged altercation with a referee during postgame handshakes. William Kenney, an assistant coach for Taunton High School's boys hockey team, allegedly shoved and bit the official following a 9-1 loss to King Philip High School."

And this is why you leave the field immediately

Maybe its required in Mass?  Who knows?  But, ... regardless .....  a 9-1 loss is the referee's fault? LMAO

couple things here......1) says they were mad about an icing call in the first period. how mad could you get over one icing call in the first period? i doubt that one icing call lead to an 8 goal swing. 2) In the NHL on ice officials are required to stay on the ice until both teams are off the ice. they are required to be there for post game handshakes. assuming it is the same with FED so not the officials fault

disclaimer- not a hockey official but an avid hockey fan

It has been required in Mass, at least in other sports

I want to know where his partner was.  There's NO WAY a coach should be able to pull a referee's jersey over his head.  The rodeo clown concept applies in hockey just as it does in baseball.  And yes, in MA, on-ice officials are required to stay on the ice until all participants have left the surface.

You'd be surprised, @bam ... Just looking at this guy's mug, he's a former hockey player himself. And what is the first thing hockey players do in a fight (other than drop the gloves)? Yup, yank the jersey over the opponent's head.

Also from the article, it reads that the pi$$ant was bound and determined to physically fight the referee. This happens all across the sports spectrum. I'm awaiting the day an officials association suggests equipping their members with tazer guns.

Careful guys- The article says the ref pulled the jersey over the coach's head after the coach chest-bumped him.

"The two argued, and Kenney allegedly chest-bumped the referee, then shoved him. The referee pulled Kenney's jersey over his head, and the two began wrestling, according to the report."
