I think Len Kaspar had it right, a classic tie. I thought the throw just barely, barely beat him but certainly not enough to overturn - no matter what the call on the field was.

There are no ties in baseball!

There is nothing in the rules that explains or exposes a tie. It's either catch / no-catch, fair / foul, safe... or out.

(Fine print: Of course my hometown hero The Commish did not help the cause in the 2001 All-Star Game by declaring a Tie in the midsummer classic. Should have made those boneheaded managers play it out.)
