I just want to say up top that I know I gave this guy too much rope:

PU for 18+ men's league, batter gets called out by my partner on a VERY close play at first,The batter slams his helmet to the ground saying "run F*#Ken faster!" I picked up his bat being at the 45 and tell him to calm down, he says "Moe, toss me." I didn't. A few guys on his team said I should have, even my umpire-in-chief who was talking to the convener of the league both told me to toss him.

Skip to the bottom of the fourth: he strikes out swinging. Again he wants me to toss him, I don't. He gets to the dugout and smashes his bat against a pole. I finally say "you're done" and eject him. He yells "FINALLY!"

I know I gave him a long leash, but I knew that he wanted to be tossed, so I made him stay in the game. If you don't want to play, don't show up, why wait for me to toss you? I don't want to toss someone because they ask me to toss them, but I thought if I gave him enough rope, he would hang himself.

Now here is the bigger issue: he is an umpire. He is a friend of mine and I have done many games with him. I really can't fathom a umpire acting that way, especially in front of the convener and the umpire-in-chief.

I understand that idea of not giving in to the wants/desires of those who misbehave, but why make everyone else on the ballfield miserable. Besides others could get the wrong idea that you are the kind of umpire that tolerates this behavior. Toss him.

If this guy is a friend, as you say, you could talk to him about the situation that he put you in...at another time.

If he wants to go toss him! Prevents other problems later.

What is a convener?

Convener is the organizer of the league. He is the head of the 18+ division of our league. Every division has a convener.

I would be mad if another umpire acted like this on a field toward me

I would be red hot if a friend acted like this on a field toward me

When my game was over I would have drove to his house and lit him up (scream not punch) for the way he acted and the position he put me in.

Better check your state's gun laws.

We have an umpire out here who plays and acts the same way.  He gets his buddies to umpire his games and they just put up with his act, which is very phony as is he as a person.  He has not once accepted responsibility for any of his on or off field actions, always trying to deflect the attention or blame to someone or something that has nothing to do with the situation.  Just completely fabricates events.  He was our association secretary and he has included stuff in the minutes that never even happened in an attempt to make himself look like a good guy.

Why?

His comments were not directed at you or the Umpire. When he asked you to dump him....do it! I wouldn't even make him give me a reason. My report would read he asked to be ejected and I obliged (if that's how you spell it).
