Matt I am not sure why you find the need to defend jacko? He is a grown man who can defend himself he does not need you running to defend his honor or whats left of it. He got owned and exposed so he took his ball and went home. If I were you I would worry about myself since you like to attack guys like magic for no reason...oh wait you got owned on that one....are you jacko?

Im done. added to my block list. That makes all of........2 Your 6,243 post was the best post you ever made.
-
It would also be sad if new guys came here to join in and were attacked by know it all umpires who feel like they are better than everyone else cause they have 6,242 post.

Jocko you wrote on another postAny BU worth his salt is gonna have a better angle and see the entire play. Do we kick em? From time to time, sure. But generally a timing issue and not a pulled foot kinda thing. Not from A. I can't recall ever getting together on a play at 1B with no other baserunners. I am confused cause before you said even if you kick the play oh well you are not going to talk to your partner cause you are worth your salt (Not sure what that means unless you are a horse). Now you are saying it is ok to talk to your partner. Do you change your view day to day or does it change with who post? or did you come around to the ideal that getting help on a play to make sure it is the right call is better than your pride? This has nothing to do with pride. An umpire in A is more likely to get it right on his own than by going to his partner. He said never go to your partner now he is saying go to your partner. if you didnt read step....if you didnt do your job....if your partner gives you "the look"....etc. THEN get together. Again, 99.9999999% of the time, you should NOT need help. But, then, I am a damn good umpire with damn good partners. and, for the record, I was in referring to BU getting help while he's in A. And I still stand behind that. If you're in the working area with no rotations, HP doing HIS job is to assist you on a pulled foot/swipe tag, should you need another set of eyes. I never once said never get together. Stop putting words in my mouth. You said you have kicked plays at first in the A position and then you said you have never went to your partner for help in the A position. So what you are saying is you would rather kick a play then go to your partner and get it right.

This is a joke right? Its a joke I promise lol

I have no problem with you telling the coach how much time he has left or how many he needs to avoid the run rule. It is your game to call and your choice. I however do not do it and here is why - I already told him in the plate meeting what the run rule is - If he is losing that bad he is going to be mad and this is where he might take a jab or go off on you - He has a scoreboard right in front of him showing him the score - If he has forgot about the run rule it is easier to tell him after the game so when he gets red hot you can walk away. I do not think it gives the coach a advantage at all. I dont think he is saying he does not want to be there I think he is like alot of us and if the game is that far out of reach no one wants to be out there any longer than they have to.

ok ..... regardless of how you present those words ....... THAT'S GOT to come across redass If I was his UIC, I'd come onto the field and correct this immediately. If you were my UIC and you came out on my field to correct anything I said or did you'd better have your plate gear on............. Calm down buddy, it's a little joke. I've seen a lot of guys comment with too many warnings. I agree. I gave a lot more rope than I usually do. My ejection totals were high and I was thinking the problem was me. So I went into this with the mindset of ignore more and make sure to give a definite warning before tossing. Now I realize I work with a bunch of uneducated coaches. Or knucleheaded ones. James Walker I know what you mean. I had a big total of ejections last year and all off season I thought maybe I am letting coaches get to me and I need to calm down and give them a little more rope. That changed the first week this year when I realized giving the coaches more rope only made it worse instead of making it better.

Umpires who can't/won't/don't do their jobs
immaculate1976 replied to FleasOf1000Camels's topic in Rules
Do you not see the irony in you taking exception to guys coming on this message board and telling you how to do your job??? Do you not understand that I am told by my boss and by the GM of the complex to do things like I have already posted? You come on here and tell me I should not do things like I do but I am told to do it like that. If you were in my shoes you would do as told also. I work hard and in the couple of months I have been there I have got tons of people telling the GM the umpires have been doing alot better and they can see the difference. That is what I care about and that is what makes me proud so I guess I could care less about what others think of me and really glad I will never have to work with some of these mlb umpires we have on here cause I am guessing they are not so great when they are not on a commputer. -
If a coach ask me at the plate meeting where my zone is my response is You figure it out My response to a coach who wants to talk about balls and strikes is and always has been "Coach you know good and well we dont talk about balls and strikes"
-
I would be mad if another umpire acted like this on a field toward me I would be red hot if a friend acted like this on a field toward me When my game was over I would have drove to his house and lit him up (scream not punch) for the way he acted and the position he put me in.

yeah but what if somebody calls my momma a whore?

Also dont call balks it is bad game management

Any time a coach tells you that he or she is an umpire before, during, or after a game - migraines are going to follow. You can pretty much set your watch to it. Everytime I get a coach that tells me he is a umpire one of two things are going to happen 1) He is a good umpire knows the rules and gives me no problems 2) He is a complete loser who thinks I am going to give him calls or ask for his thought. Most of the time they are bad umpires who dont know the rules. I have coached for 20 years and been a umpire for 18 years. I have never one time while coaching told the umpire that I am a umpire.

Umpires who can't/won't/don't do their jobs
immaculate1976 replied to FleasOf1000Camels's topic in Rules
I do not hire the umpires or decide who gets sent to do the games but there does seem to be a group of 20 who are there every night. This complex gets the lower end of umpires sent to them. Out of 20 umpires 10 are kids or rookies, 5 are solid umpires I never have to worry about and 5 are horrible umpires who drive me crazy. I have tried to work with them as much as possible but you seem to think I can teach 20 umpires how to umpire with the little time I have to talk to them every night. We have guys who dont even know what a IFF is. I have worked hard with 2 of the kids and they started in t ball and now are doing 12U and doing it good. Some of you have said "If you came on my field I would leave" but here is the deal. If you are a good umpire I would not have to come on your field to figure out a rule cause you would know it. I dont micro manage I do what I was asked to do and I think with the group of umpires I started with we have came along way. -
I have never coached or umpired a league that made players slide. The rule is always that you dont have to slide but you have to avoid contact. I dont think you should be teaching your players to slide into the fielder cause it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt or they start to slide away from the base and at the fielder. I would talk to the umpire in the plate meeting and find out how he is going to handle this rule and go from there.

Umpires who can't/won't/don't do their jobs
immaculate1976 replied to FleasOf1000Camels's topic in Rules
First of all when I saw the pitcher with white sleeves on it was kind of clear that was the problem since most coaches and umpires know you are not allowed white sleeves. Here is the deal I dont know how the UIC is where you are but here must be different. My job is to make sure the umpires show up and are dressed right. I answer any questions they have and make sure they are on there fields on time. While the games are going on I walk around watching the umps work and taking notes on what they are doing right and wrong so after the game I can talk to them about it. I am also expected to go on the field for any problems that come up that the umpires either dont know or coaches request me to come talk to them. I will as long as it is not a judgement call. I also make sure ejected coaches, fans or players find there way out. I have never worked at a complex that the UIC has not did any of the above. I learned from them and I was told this is how you do your job. I was also told by the GM of the complex this is what I want from you. You want me to see a pitcher wearing a illegal shirt and tell the coach oh well not my field file a protest instead of just taking the 2 minutes to fix it. If the umpire on the field gets mad cause of this then I could care less. He should be more worried about himself and the fact he does not know a common rule. -
I had a coach go crazy on me cause I called a runner safe at home cause his catcher was blocking the plate without the ball. He told me I was making rules up, had no clue about how to umpire and was trying to screw his team over. He then says he is never playing here again he was going to a different complex next year. I said coach I will give you a head start there your gone. His AC says F&ck you blue and I said your gone too see if you can beat him there. Also if I read it right did the director get you thrown off your game?

Umpires who can't/won't/don't do their jobs
immaculate1976 replied to FleasOf1000Camels's topic in Rules
All fine points by someone that wants to do a great job. My only question to your case points: why do you stop a game and confront the umpires about a pitcher wearing white sleeves? Until there is an issue on-field, let your guys work their game. Coaches don't say anything, then it becomes something that slips by and you discuss it with them postgame. Don't authorize yourself into a game unasked, even as UIC Let me clear this up a little I had a AC come up and tell me there was a problem on field 4 and the HC wanted to see me. While walking down I saw the pitcher with white sleeves on and asked the AC if that was what the HC wanted to see me about? He said yes they tried to tell the umpire he could not wear them and the umpire told them they were wrong and he could wear white sleeves. I walked toward the dugout and the AC said to the HC he already knows and is going to fix it. I stopped the game cause the white sleeves hide the ball and if I waited it would be cheating every batter that had to face him. I tend to ramble on so I try to keep it simple when I post to avoid typing a book. -

I dont care if they sit on buckets and have there feet out a little but just not out of the dugout standing against the fence. -
Umpires who can't/won't/don't do their jobs
immaculate1976 replied to FleasOf1000Camels's topic in Rules
I get into it all the time with coaches when I enforce rules. I also get into it with umpires when I UIC cause they dont know the rules. I just worked a tournament all weekend as the UIC and my favorites were - Had to go to a field cause the umpire called a runner out for not sliding and coach went crazy. I said to the ump was there contact? no then he is safe. Umpire argued with me until I told him I had a extra ump and he was free to go. After the game I made him google it and he ate alot of sh!t. He has been calling it wrong all year so now coaches are confused. - Had to go to a field cause the ump got into it with the coaches. Kid took the mound threw his warm up pitches guess the coach did not like what he saw so took him out. Ump did not know he had to pitch to 1 batter. - Saw a kid pitching with a white long sleeve shirt on. I stopped the game asked the ump wtf he was doing? explained it told the coach and the coach says "He has been wearing that shirt all year when he pitches why does it matter?" - Told a coach he needed to be in the dugout cause him and his AC were standing way outside of the dugout and it was a 14U game. He gets mad cause in 5 years of coaching no umpire has ever made him stay in the dugout. I said well then the streak is over get in the dugout. -
I remember my first college game and the best advice I can give you is to count to one mississippi before calling ball or strike. The reason is the ball will break like you have never seen before and what you think is going to be in the zone will break down and what you think is going to miss will break over the plate. Deep breath and just dont hurry it.

I have had this happen several times when I am in A position If it is a comment not directed at me - I ignore the first one - Next time I say come on coach you know better - Third time I say coach this will be the last time I tell you Now all of this depends on if the comment is loud or soft and if it is him venting or a reaction If it is a question about his zone directed toward me - I say coach I understand your frustration but you know we dont talk about the zone - If he keeps asking or gets loud I tell him knock it off coach not going to tell you again Now most of the time this is a good coach who is caught up in the moment of the game. He is frustrated and I dont blame him I would be mad too at some of the zones I have seen. I have never had to toss someone for this most of the time if it gets that far they knock it off
