  1. I had plate in a 8th grade game last year HT scored 15 in the 4th and we walked off the field in 42 minutes
  2. Any run limit per inning? 6 runs per inning the VT was down by 13
  3. WTF!? It's his (accepted) job to get behind the plate and to coach the runner trying for home whether to slide and which way to slide. I am talking about the kid who is not coaching the runner he is walking up to bat without seeing the play is still going on. So bases loaded ball bounces off the catcher toward on deck batter who is swinging and hits it to the fence are you telling me everyone scores one this?
  4. I would send the runner back. There is no reason for the next batter to be behind the catcher during a play. He should stay in the on deck circle until the play is over and then he comes to bat.
  5. The game is 1:45 Run Rule is 15 after 3 or 10 after 4
  6. I had a umpire eject a coach tonight. After the game the two umpires are going at it over the ejection. Umpire A told coach if they did not get 4 runs the game was over and the coach got mad saying no we pay to play here we are going to play until the time runs out. Umpire A told him no we have run rules here if you dont get 4 runs its over. Coach tells him you are starting to piss me off and umpire A ejects him. Umpire B thought he was way too quick with the ejection. So what do you think was it a good ejection or not?
  7. Guest Brian Murphy You are a cry baby....sorry its true. Grow up and quit coming on umpire sites to cry cause a umpire called a corner pitch a strike. No one is out to get you or your team just tell your kids to SWING THE BAT!!!! and quit looking to walk. I do everything from 4th grade to high school. In 4th grade you are getting a HUGE ZONE!!!! why? cause I dont want to issue 48 walks. I have never had a coach complain that my zone was too big they love it cause they dont want to watch 48 walks either. Sorry if I am cheating kids out of the game or smashing there dreams of a bases loaded walk. Guest Umpie and Coach I have a feeling you are Guest Brian Murphy or his brother. If you are not and you really do umpire STOP cause you are making the rest of us look stupid when you explain your zone before the game.
  8. I have been a umpire for 18 years. I do everything from 4th grade to high school and not one time did I ever tell my partner or another coach I do high school. I dont understand why saying that means anything to anyone? I have worked with partners who brag about doing high school and then go out there and are horrible.
  9. I both point and say play on every ball I put back in play with runners on. I say play so that my partner, the coaches and the players know the ball is now live. I seem to be the odd one here but I dont say ball, announce where the pitch was or motion where the pitch was. My reason for this is that I was taught not to say ball when I started. I dont say location or show location cause I feel like I am coaching the pitcher where to throw and also I feel like I am explaing my zone.
  10. What are you doing while all this is going on. Just silently signalling the strike? Yes, the defense is responsible for knowing the situation- knowing that the batter can't advance here and no throw is necessary. I'm not sure what the coach wanted you to "yell at the runner", but there is something you can do as a dose of preventive umpiring. When a retired batter starts running to first following a third strike, when he's not entitled to run, you can step up and LOUDLY and FIRMLY announce, "Batter out, batter out!", while giving a strong out signal. Now, if the defense makes the wrong play...it's on them. You did your job by clearly communicating the situation to all the players. I do my signal for strike 3 and I yell batters out but you got 3 coaches and 30 fans screaming for him to run so he is going to run. If you had a IFF and runners take off running before it is caught would you start yelling at the runners to go back or would you let it play out?
  11. Bases loaded no outs Swing and miss dropped third strike Kid takes off to first cause his coaches are stupid and yelling to run All the runners take off Catcher knowing the rules tags the runner coming home I call him out and coaches lose there mind saying I should have yelled at the runner and I tell them I am not a coach This has happened four times in the last month to me Its close to what you had either way the players have to know the rules
  12. I understand these days there are alot of coaches who dont know the rules or how to act as a manager. I do not show up every night looking to eject but I will not hold back either. I dont buy in to the bullsh*t of trying to keep the coach in the game. He is the one who decides if he stays or leaves. If I get a coach who argues balls and strikes here is how I handle it 1) Ignore 2) Tell him coach were not going to argue balls and strikes this is your warning 3) Bye Bye coach
  13. I use the same strike 3 call if I am doing High School or 10U. I could care less if I hurt little johnnys feelings. If you care about kids feelings you are going to leave feeling bad after every game.
  14. In the first one I would have ejected him if I knew or not. You cant have a player out there who gets to say whatever he wants if it is his fault or not. If he is that bad why did the coach not put him in right field? In the second one I would have warned dont care what he has if you throw a bat you can hurt someone bad.
  15. Please don't do any of these
  16. This is every MLB umpires ringer http://deadspin.com/5923645/yerrrr-out-out-out-out-an-animated-gallery-of-every-mlb-umpires-strike-three-call-part-1 I use Doug Eddings but I am thinking about changing it to Ron Kulpa
  17. I have umped daughters team that my wife is the manager of - Small rec league it was either I ump it or they would not be able to play Cousins team Friends kids teams Former players I coached I have never one time kicked a call on purpose. I call it fair and dont tell anyone
  18. If he went 12 years and never threw a player or coach he is either A) working the greatest league ever or B) he sucks as an umpire. I am going to guess B) since he said the coach started in the 2nd inning and he did not throw him until the 5th. Also he works 12 years and everything is great and as soon as he has to throw a coach the whole little league system is falling apart? WTF.
  19. This is what I was thinking too. I would have half a mind to keep him in so his next at bat he would have the biggest strike zone in the history of the game.
  20. This is incorrect. Contact does not necessarily mean an illegal act. If the player does not slide but does run into the catcher with MC he is out for the contact but not ejected for MC
  21. I called interference on a kid last year for screaming at a fielder while he was trying to catch a fly ball, coach did not say anything cause he knew I was right. I have warned coaches before over dugout chatter. If I hear the team saying things like Kill them or he sucks I will stop the game and warn the HC
  22. On the field I am a umpire and I act like one. Off the field I am not a umpire and while I will walk away from people running there mouth I will not stand there and let anyone threated me. I will not throw the first punch but you can bet I will throw the last one.
  23. If the catcher has the ball he can block the plate it is up to the runner to either slide or avoid contact. There is going to be contact on a play like this so what you now have to look at is was the contact Regular - This would be a slide where the catcher gets his leg moved he is either safe or out Contact - This would be what you had above where the kid does not slide but there is no MC he is out no matter what for it MC - This would be if he lowers the shoulder or pushes the catcher, he is out and ejected
  24. Here is my plate meeting Are you both the head coach of your team? We got 7 innings or hour 45 Run rule is 15 after 3 or 8 after 4 We are calling Balks, IFF and drop third strike Runners do not have to slide but they do have to avoid contact If you have any questions or problems during the game will can talk but we will only talk with you not your asst coaches I ask partner if he as anything to add Lets play ball On a side note if you are the base umpire please dont talk during the plate meeting unless you are asked a question.
  25. Here is what I don't understand. kid gets picked off You don't call balk Your partner does not call a balk The coach comes out why? Does he really think you are going to say well since you did not like the call we will change it? I wonder if he got a ump to change his call like this or He is just a complete fool and has no clue that the call is not going to change
