Can someone explain to me the new trend of having a small extention at the top of the masks such has the Diamonds and the Champros?

I'm not a fan of the extentions. Any recommendations on masks that do not have them besides the Wilson ones such as thr Titanium and the Dyna-lite?

They are intended to be a cap guard to deflect a ball that otherwise may hit the top of your head (which IMO the top portion of the mask does anyway). My current masks (All Star FM25ti and +POS Zero-G) do not have one. I have owned both the Diamond and Champro in the past and while I noticed the guard, it never really bothered me. Plus, it made hanging the mask from my mask hook easier...:)

See, now it makes sense. I mean what else are you going to do with your mask between innings or while talking to tne coach or making line up changes. I mean most of us live where there is bad weather (hate you sun belt umpires) so we cant set it on the ground like normal umpires. We would get our mask all dirty!

In all seriousness, that's what I thought. It doesnt bug me at all either while wearing it, I just think it looks strange and is an unnecessary addition if the mask is used correctly.

I've taken one ball off the button of my hat. How it got their, I do not know. But any sort of defector up there is welcome, goofly looking, or not.

Man, that hurt.

Actually the dangled is best for between innings, you slide the dangler in the back of your pants, done, no holding. I thought everybody knew that. :)

Sent from my C771 using Tapatalk 2

There's no better way to exhibit class on the field than sticking your dangler in your pants. ;)

What you wrote in red: As an umpire, the act of placing your face mask on the ground is not a professional thing to do. Simply place the face mask under your arm, by your side and rest your arm on it. Umpires do not place their masks on the ground. Please do not take this as if I am saying you are unprofessional. I'm not. I'm simply saying the act of placing the mask on the groud is. It's an easy fix, however, I respect your right to do as you feel is right.

Especially since you are still new to the site and not know me since I have been absent from UE for some time. But this was sarcasm. You will NEVER see me setting my mask down on the ground.

I will accept your apology before you make it and will consider you a brother in blue in the future.

Again, I wasn't calling you unprofessional. I was talking about the act of placing the mask on the ground. You gave no indication that it was sarcasm, so that's why I said what I said, because I know that there are plenty of umpires out there that do put their mask on the ground, and think nothing of it.

I said it for benefit of all, old and new, and it wasn't an attack on you or anyone. There is nothing I tried "to get away with" and I don't see need to apologize since I wasn't saying you were unprofessional, just the act of laying the mask on the ground is, because it is not taught by any professional or collegiate school/clinic, and is very amatuerish.

If I can miss your sarcasm, it is possible that someone else could and read that as acceptable mechanics. If that offended you, I don't know what to say.

Whoa! It isn't OK to set my mask on the ground?

What do I do if my clicker gets stuck and my phone rings at the same time?

I like that BT Blue followed his "mask on the ground" sentence with the words "In all seriousness..." yet whooooooosh to Manny. Manny is old school to the core! I do learn from some of your posts, Manny, just find this one funny.

First of all, why are you using a clicker!? You shouldn't have a clicker, you should be saying the count after every pitch. Even if you do get confused, just call time and ask your partner in the field. He definitely should be carrying a clicker. As far as your phone goes, just put it on silent. By the way, how do you carry your phone anyway? you should only have one ball bag and your lineup card in your pants pocket.

Ever since I stopped using the balloon Ive had to put my mask on the ground so Id have something to sit on between innings.

You forgot to turn your hat backwards, roll up your shirt, and apply your Axiron to your armpits, to improve your Mantra.

Why you stop using the balloon?

All I ask is that you don't stick your dangler in your partner's pants.
