Hmmm. A couple of things depend on that.

A. The time limit of the games.

B. The level of ball.

C. What the temperature is.

In Texas in the summer. I would call at most 3 games with 2 behind the plate, and that would wipe me by the end of the third game.

I believe you can;t properly hydrate or focus in that kind of heat with more games than that.

If it's in the 50's with beautiful weather? I would say 5 at the extreme max, but prolly 4 comfortably. I mean even 4 games you are on the field for about 8 hours total. That's a lot of work.

I've done 9. I found out that my ideal is 4. Will do 5 at the max now. My PF will have me crippled after that.

I've done a max of 5 plate games, 1:30 time limit, in 100 degrees and I walked away from that one beat up. Not only that but I had some nasty "prickly heat" on my upper back afterwards. I discovered that was way more than I need to do, even with proper hydration and gear. Thank god I had those NB plate shoes or my feet would have been even worse by the end of that.

The most games I have done in one day is 8. I will never do that again.

As far as the numbers of games on the bases vs plate, I consciously try to not do more than 3 plate games in a row. It becomes very comfortable doing the plate every game, at least for me, so I would tend to want to do the plate all the time. It's important to remain sharp on the bases, and that takes more focus and concentration for me.

Three is what I try to max at, I will do four if needed but not more than two plates, no back to back.

Sent from my C771 using Tapatalk 2

I won't do more than 3, period. I'm 54 which qualifies me as no longer being a spring chicken, er rooster. Personally I don't think you can be at your best when you do a lot of games in a row on a certain day. If you're talking about time limits, I don't like them. Not especially fair to the kids. Plus, not having a clock is one of the great things about baseball. It's not over until it's over. I do like the mercy rules that are in place at most tournaments.

I agree with Stu on this one. The one tournament where I did 8 games total was unfair for us and the players. The 8th and last game was the championship game, played at 8 pm on a Sunday night, after the teams had played all day. Everyone was testy and grumpy, we ended up ejecting several participants. It serves nobody to have that many games.

6 in a day during tournaments is pretty much the norm around here.....

Usually you do 3 and swap positions with your partner for the final 3.

Definately makes for a long-ass day.

What prefer to do when I assign tournaments, when possible, is to have a couple of extras that can give guys games off during the day. It means the guys are doing four instead of five but they also don't get killed with a long day.

3 umpires per field, working as a team, 2 on, 1 off.

Off man serves as a support person for the on men.

He is geared up to take the plate when the other 2 come off.

Give these guys one field all tournament.

Rotate age groups at the end of each day.

3 max.

I'm 56, I used to do more but I don't think you get your money's worth after 3 with me. Plus I'm all about quality games as opposed to quantity, now.

on a typical weekend here in North Texas, I do between 10 and 16 games in 2 days. I try not do do more than 3 plates in a row although I have done 6 plates in a row once. Most games I have done in one day is 8 in a day. I try to keep 7 games a day a my max and get 1 game off between my 4th and 5th games and just that short break is enough to keep me going through the day.

For all, is this your max with a partner or working solo? How many games would you work solo in a day if needed?

I will take all the games they give me. Bring it on! My quality will be 100% till the end!

It's only my opinion, but, there's no way you can be as good in your 5th or 6th game as you are in your earlier games. I just don't think you're giving your employer an honest day's work for an honest day's pay.

Ask yourself this, would your last mile in a marathon be the same speed as your first mile?
