At any age counting automatic. Counting with language is really easy. Counting with language and yelled shouldn't even get a coach out of the dugout. 

If an umpire talks to a youth/high school player and it is evident that he is being disciplined, I would think that the coach/manager would come out and find out what is going on. That is when you can engage the manager about his players behavior. The idea behind my handling is not to "bait" the manager out. It is to get control of the player under control. Do coaches really not pay attention to what their players are doing when an umpire is talking to them in a disciplinary manner? Wow. Poor coaching. I'm not afraid to eject. But I won't do it unnecessarily.

There are several things that I believe are auto ejects at any level. One is counting, another is drawing lines or demonstrating plays, and the third that always rankles me is 'call them both ways, blue'. That is an insult to our integrity as umpires, and it's a no no. I have found, if you don't handle these seemingly insignificant issues sternly and quickly, things will soon escalate on you.

Counting? Never heard of that one. Drawing lines, flagrent arm or bodily motions, demonstrating plays, "You blankety-blank-blank"; I can understand those, but the call 'em both ways isn't automatic with me. That one requires reading the circumstances, inquiring, and dealing with appropriately.

Counting calls is coach speak for shoving it up your butt. The OP didn't say the age level but anything that is HS or less, laguage is auto and yelling at an umpire is either auto or a very firm,"That's enough!" However, the counting is going to be his demise. When I dump him the coach would likely come out. But, with him yelling with language and counting he is going to be gone before the coach could think about getting out there. If he heard what happened I would expect him not to come out, instead staying to jack his player up. 

If it is adult ball then he still goes for counting, language and yelling, but I expect the coach is coming, not that will change anything except give the player some company in the parking lot.
