BigUmpire
@ BigUmpire. And all other veterans. Do you guys salute the flag during National Anthem? I do. Did it during yesterday's game and my partner (non-vet) and one of the coaches (veteran status unknown) got really happy about it. I do and cry every time. Majordave
First, sorry for the hijacking. Second, BigUmp, you big softie; Tears for the flag, lost brothers, memories, hopes....brother I feel ya. On three or four occasions I've had the pleasure to work games with fellow vets. None of them had been saluting. I talked them into it. One place they took pics of us and sent them to us both. Third, as to the % of games that have National Anthem playing; college almost all of them around here in patriotic Kansas and Missouri. And Most of them in Kentucky and Indiana as well when I worked there. American Legion-100% of them-Kentucky and Kansas. High School- 50/50. For big games and playoffs yes. Travel ball and showcase tourneys- none of them.
BigUmpire
I announce loudly: “Veterans, hand salute!†Some do some don’t BUT I always get handshakes for doing it. My 9 year old grandson always salutes. If I can I will tell them before BUT not always. Try this sometime when you know there are old warriors with you when the National Anthem is played. BT_Blue
Greatest National Anthem moment: Working an adult ball game one summer at Cerritos College south of Los Angeles. On the softball field, the college softball team was getting ready for their game. We are smack in the middle of the the 3rd inning. HELL, smack in the middle of an at bat! All of a sudden, the National Anthem starts to play over the speakers for the softball game. F1 steps off the rubber, removes his hat and stands at attention. Everyone else follows suit. It was quite an experience and helped me find a new respect for the Anthem and our great country.
Toucs1977
Here is my main mask. Diamond silver Dfm with team wendy pads, Spyder throat guard, and sunvisor.
Toucs1977
My secondary mask. Fm 25 frame, wilson two tone grey/black wrap around pads, allstar magnesium throat guard and sunvisor. Sometimes I'll put the spyder on this setup too. Depends on what the groupies want. This is a heavy rig so I don't wear it often.

alex7
Is that second one the mask @alex7 sold on Ebay a couple weeks ago? Sure looks like it, particularly due to the small crinkle on the left side. lol, spoiled umpire to pay that much for a backup mask. But like he said, sometimes you just gotta please the groupies. bluegorilla
Thanks. The MajorDave thing was just a joke at first. Remember Major Dad show? That show with Gerald McRaney was on when I was first promoted to Major and my ex and kids started calling me that and Major Dave. When I started doing the umpire forums not very many, if anyone, used real names so when I needed a forum posting name I chose my family's pet nickname. I do not use it to lord my former rank and status over anyone nor do I think I am better than anyone else because I once upon a time served our country. (Who really cares about or respects Majors anyway? The symbol of the rank is an oak leaf, similar enough to resemble a fig leaf and you know artists have emplaced fig leafs on pricks for centuries......hahaha!) I have taken the rank off and keep it off but I did not like the Wilson W logo and it just kind of came to me. The wings on the CP are rarely seen and are just something important to me. But thanks for the comment. My dad was an umpire when I was growing up and playing ball . As a LTC , he never got much flack from the coaches as the league was on post ! I too am a vet and after reading these posts I will start saluting the Anthem at my games !
Toucs1977
It was. It wasnt going to be, but it was pretty heavy, so I decided to start from scratch and do more homework on my mask. Now I have my preferred rig. Although the second one is definitely groupie sexy. I really think my first one looks tough.
Toucs1977
I also wish they played the national anthem at all my games. I love that song.

rjt6
At the league I'm at, all of the games pretty much started at the same time (5:30 PM) so we would do the anthem for the whole park. For some reason, about a year or so ago, we stopped doing that. I don't know why, but I will ask the head of the league to start doing the anthem again. Mike Prince
OK, posting my current setups: Primary - All-Star FM25ti with tan TW's and 4" Champro vented TG My newest addition - Mizuno 2QA122 with Mizuno 2ZA206 TG (shown with tan TW's) The TW's do not fit to my liking in the Mizuno. Going to put a set of Wilson tan wrap-arounds in it and will probably pick up some other pads to try in it as well. This will be my "keeper" project mask, a trip to Mask-It for powdercoating is likely in its future. Wasn't sure I'd like the Mizuno TG, but it goes great with this mask. It came with a wrench to attach it to the mask.
BT_Blue
Mike, what about moving the TW straps BELOW the bar they are above of right now? That way it sits lower on the chin? just a suggestion.
Mike Prince
Mike, what about moving the TW straps BELOW the bar they are above of right now? That way it sits lower on the chin? just a suggestion. I tried moving the side straps down yesterday like that, no go. It's too far down and pushes the pad out of shape badly. I'm not a huge fan of the wraparounds, but I had an open order with U-A so I added them to it (already had free shipping). I've heard they work very well with this mask. If I can find a pair of Wilson "traditional" pads (U-A doesn't carry them anymore) I will get those too. The pads from the Mizuno G2 mask look interesting too (as do several other pads), I have a business contact at Mizuno USA but not sure he can get me replacement pads.
