BT_Blue Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 To start, My All Star FM4000 mask with stock LUC pads.ump equipment 005.JPG Next is my Play it Again Sports $7 All Star FM25 that I just received back from Mask-it. A little before and after for you:ump equipment 001.JPG After pic with I bar vision plate removed, new black powder coat, and new LUC pads.ump mask 001.JPG ump mask 004.JPG New mask weight with stock LUC pads 19.3 ozs. Looks awesome! I've wanted to get rid of that tag on mine, and you might have convinced me to do that I was thinking of doing that with mine, but think I will just have the extention taking off. It pushes the Spyder back and gets caught on my ahirt just a tad. Quote

grayhawk Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 Just got a new mask: Black +Pos Zero-G with tan TW pads and All Star TG. It will accompany my Silver Diamond iX3 with black TW pads and All Star TG in my gear bag (also known as my trunk). Thinking Zero-G with tan pads for hot, sunny days, and either mask for cool days or evenings. EDIT: Wow - the visibility out of the Zero-G is MUCH better than the diamond. 1 Quote
midtnump Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 Wow you can clearly see the difference in the eye opening between the Zero gravity and the Diamond. Quote
LRZ Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 Can someone please explain what the guarantee means? Is it purchaser's lifetime or five years from purchase? Quote
sri8527 Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 looks interesting, not sure I am a fan of the warranty though, I would think that at two bills the warranty would be similar too what Wilson offers with their ti masks, which we all know bend, the all star ti still seems the best as far as replacing though, they don't replace, because they don't bend. I just can't get past the big square ear protection on the all star. I personally don't use a ti, the protection I get from my diamond and both all stars I have is enough for me. all star is becoming my equipment of choice. Quote
rjt6 Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 I played in a double header on Sunday - both umpires wore diamond masks with diamond stock pads. So sad! Quote

grayhawk Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 Interesting that they don't list the weight anywhere. These guys are umpires, so you think they would "explain it before they have to explain it." Quote
Majordave Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 I have read and re-read the advertisement on the ABUA Store Website with a critical eye. I really like Jim Evans. The other guys in his organization I do not really know so I have no opinion. I have some questions I will need answered before I form an opinion of the new Force 3 Defender mask. First, what is it's weight? Second, what is the metal alloy composition in the mask? Third, what is the fabric/material and make up of the mask pads? Otherwise, I think it looks good and is a possible purchase by me sometime in the future. I was one of the early adopters of the Wilson Ti in low profile. I still have it and wear it as my main mask. I have been hit many times in this mask with no ill effects to me or the mask other than a sore chin last Wednesday from a hit I took while wearing my new Team Wendy's pads. I used to want the newest, and sexiest umpire equipment as soon as it came out. Now, I am over 50 and becoming settled in my ways and less of a new gear chaser............I will have to be sold on this one first. 1 Quote

Bkesler24 Posted April 6, 2014 Report Posted April 6, 2014 My secondary mask. Fm 25 frame, wilson two tone grey/black wrap around pads, allstar magnesium throat guard and sunvisor. Sometimes I'll put the spyder on this setup too. Depends on what the groupies want. This is a heavy rig so I don't wear it often. My secondary mask. Bkesler24 Posted April 6, 2014 Report Posted April 6, 2014 It was. It wasnt going to be, but it was pretty heavy, so I decided to start from scratch and do more homework on my mask. Now I have my preferred rig. Although the second one is definitely groupie sexy. I really think my first one looks tough.Just wondering where did you get that FM 25 frame at? Quote

You can get and FM25 at Academy or any other store like that for $25. I know a lot of guys love that frame and I will probably catch a little grieve for this but I personally don't think it's that great of a frame. It just feels cheaply made to me and way to heavy. Plus I'm not a fan of double bar masks in general. Quote
Bkesler24 Posted April 6, 2014 Report Posted April 6, 2014 I asked that because I was at the academy and seen that mask for $24.99 and it was flat bars I picked it up and thought to myself I don't know if this mask is any good or not. Quote
NWA_UMP Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 Greyhawk- How do you like the +POS mask? I will be in the market soon and I am looking for better vision than what I have with my Champro magnesium. The eye opening on the +POS is noticeably wider than others than I have seen, plus the weight is right and what I am used to. I am try to decide between +POS or All Star HSM 2500... Quote
Mike Prince Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 I have used the Champro as well as the +POS, and I liked both. Never had a visibility issue with the Champro, but overall liked the +POS better as it was similar weight without the coating issues with the Champro Mag. Edit - You likely will notice a change in visibility between the two masks as I would characterize the Champro as a "high profile" mask and the +POS as a "mid profile" (not low profile), similar to the Diamond iX3. By that logic, the visibility should improve with the +POS. Quote
