Thunderheads Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 what's with the zip ties @Platejob29? Quote
Jglopez7 Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 I like the tan TW pads with the black patch logo...I've noticed some pads have the TW logo printed not patched. Quote

Moe Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 I like your modification to the Spyder Throat Guard. Which throat guard so you think is lighter? The plastic or the spider? Quote
Platejob29 Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Â I like your modification to the Spyder Throat Guard. Which throat guard so you think is lighter? The plastic or the spider? Â probably about the same. The Spider if kept original with the rubber coating is heavier than the plastic throat guard, but if you remove the rubber coating it's about the same weight. Quote
Platejob29 Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 what's with the zip ties @Platejob29? Keeps the harness from sliding up and down. Only reason I used zip ties is because it's cheaper and lighter than welding an extra bar to the frame. Quote

JoHart10 Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 @Platejob29...I saw and liked your ziptie idea for a sliding harness on your nike. I took your thought and added it to my zero g...thought you might like the idea because it does the same thing and is slightly less noticeable. Quote
gnhbua93 Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 Next time paint the zip ties silver color before you put them on the mask. 1 Quote

Texas Manny Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 Nice masks everyone. Two things I wish the mask manufacturer's would incorporate together on their masks: A) Produce a throat protector straight down, and longer than what they've been doing, and B) Ear wings that are square and wider, protruding from the sides of the mask a little farther. Â The All*star FM25Ti is perfect, but some here have said not to get this mask for it bends too easily when hit. Quote

Not sure who here has had a bent FM25Ti or said they have, I've spoken personally with a fellow U-E member who has worked closely with All-Star and he heard it first-hand from Brad Jurga that All-Star has never heard of or received an FM25Ti which has bent due to a ball impact.  Having this as my primary mask, I would find it hard to believe that the double-bar design is less strong that the single-bar design of other manufacturer's ti masks. 2 Quote

Two things I wish the mask manufacturer's would incorporate together on their masks: A) Produce a throat protector straight down, and longer than what they've been doing, and B) Ear wings that are square and wider, protruding from the sides of the mask a little farther.  The All*star FM25Ti is perfect, but some here have said not to get this mask for it bends too easily when hit. The Nike's throat guard is straight down and slightly longer than most. However that happens to be my only problem with the mask. When I don't wear a throat guard it's not a problem at all and I really like it but when I have one on my mask I have to hang it on the outside of the mask or else it gets in the way and I can't look down with out pushing the mask up. Normally this wouldn't be a problem for me because I'm not a big fan of throat guards any way but after talking to a few minor league guys suggesting I get used to wearing one because in the lower levels of minor league ball the play isn't as clean and some funky things can happen that make a throat guard pretty useful. 1 Quote

I would bet that the double bar TI is at least as strong as the single bars in the testing. I know I will never max out the capacity of my FM25 with TW pads to protect me. 2 Quote
catcher Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 My next purchase is going to be an FM25 (black steel). Should I get black or tan team wendys for it? I can't decide. I also still catch and would use that mask for catching too. Quote

I also still catch and would use that mask for catching too. With a black frame I personally think black TWs look better than tan. Tan TWs are one of those pad sets that just don't look very appealing in a black framed mask. I'm curious to see how you like TWs when you catch. I too was a catcher when I played but that was before TWs ever came out so I never really tried them out with a skull cap before. Just by looking at them and having experience with them as an umpire my first thought would be that they would slide around a little bit on the forehead but I wouldn't know for sure. Quote
catcher Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 Ill let you know how they work in 6 months or so:) Quote
