Looks like a foul ball to me. Then again I'm watching this in statistics class and can't turn the sound on so maybe the sound is telling.

Always hard to tell. The batter was getting rid of the bat before PU even began to signal 1B. Don't know if he already heard PU say the ball hit him. But, the batter was ready to go. Inconclusive and only the batter truly knows.

I'm doing the same thing in a social psychology class. Boy, aren't we cool

Haha. Ya my teacher is on a rant right now. I'd much rather see what Jeff posted than listen to him.

The pitcher seems to be saying that the batter was over the plate or that the pitch would of been a strike so he doesnt seem to be arguing that its a foul ball.

And we know a batter would never lie. :hi5:

What you talking about? Derek Jeter would never deke on something like this. He will always tell the umpire the ball did not hit him if it didn't.

With that kind of a carum, and not clearly hearing or seeing what it hit, I always think twice before sending him to 1B

Especially with no sign of "pain"!!! :question1:

Seems like Angel was going off of the batter's reaction. This is one of the most difficult things to see, and even the sound is not conclusive. As Danny said, it may have just grazed the batter's hand/wrist before hitting the knob which, of course, would be a HPB. Sure would have been easier if the batter had at least shaken his hand indicating some pain.

Be fair. Neither would the catcher and pitcher then I guess.

If the pitcher throws the pitch into the batter's box and I have no view of the point of contact, 100 times out of 100 I'm sending the batter to 1st (unless he just stands there looking at the knob of the bat, that is)

Very true.

I'd expect the ball to lose more energy if it hit flesh.

Not at the angle that seemed to hit. Brushed him and then butt of bat. So going 90MPH to 89.999MPH in that 3 inches? You could see that?

Better man than me.
