Looking for some feedback on the color of ball bags to wear with different color shirts when working the plate. Most of the time I use my navy bags with the blues, red, white, etc. But when wearing a black shirt, should the ball bags be black or is gray acceptable also? What about a cream shirt with black piping? For what it is worth, I wear both heather and charcoal pants.

Ball bags should match your belt and shoes (according to my wife). In this case she is right, don't worry I didn't tell her she was right.

The only thing that should be in question is two bags or one. I go with two bags.

Ball bags should also match your cap. If I wear navy, powder blue or red I wear navy cap and bags. If I wear Polo Blue, Black or Cream then it is black cap and bags. Those are the only color shirts I have so I can't comment on any others.

I think this is one of those things where you do what's expected in your area. In my area, it's Navy ball bags and hat with Navy, Red, Powder. Black with Polo and Black. If you can get away with wearing black all the time - more power to you...

+1. It is so very simple. Saw a partner the other day with a blue bag and black hat wearing navy. Looked out of place.

Yeah, your hat and ball bags definitely need to match. If you're wearing a black hat, it doesn't matter what shirt you're wearing, go with the black ball bags and vice-versa...

Unless, of course, you're wearing one of these, then you just wear your favorite team's hat backwards...

+1 This is what I go with.

I think this is an area thing. Black or tan shirt is the only time we wear a black hat. Otherwise it's a blue hat. Below the wast never changes here.

But what do I know, I'm just a Dum Coonass that types foul tip when he means foul ball. ;-)

and all of your gear on the outside of your uniform so you can show it off to all the other Smitty's

I find the walmart plastic bags work real good and go with almost all the uniform colors.

If its a big game I upgrade to the target bags.

You're high class. If my base umpire doesn't want to hold them, I'll just put them in my pockets.

Though if they came through with a mandate in our area that eliminated both Navy hats and ball bags I wouldn't object, I do love the Black look from the tip of my hat to the tips of my freshly hairsprayed plate shoes.

Great. Thank you for all of the information and colorful commentary! Another question - I have a set of navy Gino Carlucci bags that I REALLY like. However, it is most likely impossible to find a pair in black. So --- what would be the next best thing that is readily available?

Agree. Also, ....Jersey in Red, or White should also get the navy cap and bags. Anything trimmed in black, gets black.....
