  1. Yeah, no second-guessing here, those are both automatic.

    2 + 1

There's no automatic 1 game suspension following an ejection? That's pretty common procedure around here.
  3. I don't care what a coach signals with his arms, but I don't want him yelling safe in a manner that might make the defense think I called the player safe and leading to further confusion.
  4. So, the argument is that even though the ball is a strike, we should still call it a ball? I'm fine with calling a ball if the catcher blocks the view and you can't see that it's a strike, but if you see the strike, call it.

    Is this a balk

Whoa, hadn't noticed this. This is terrible. At the very least, make it so the default is sort by date, and if people want to pretend that UE is reddit, then allow them to choose sort by rating.
  6. If the umpire is the former board president from the HT's league, what is he doing umpiring the game? Doesn't the district assign umpires to games that don't involve their teams? That's standard practice out here. In any case, depending on the volume of what was yelled, I think an EJ could be justified here.
  7. I had this happen in a LL District TOC game at the minors level (~10u). I had done one game for this team earlier in the year, and warned the pitcher then, and then gave him two warnings in this game and told both he and his coach that the next one would be a ball on an illegal pitch. Thankfully it didn't happen again.
  8. I used to leave my water in one of the team's dugouts, until there was an awkward moment after having ejected that team's coach. Since then, I find somewhere along the backstop, ideally in the shade if such a thing exists. The only way I don't do this is if the league itself provides water (one nearby league has this slick double-sided mini-closet thing that they open from their side, stick water in, and then I can open from my side to get it out).
  9. This is one of the things that drives me crazy recently. Catchers seem to be setting up outside more and more, the pitcher hits the glove, but it's outside. In my experience, the stands and dugout tends to get upset, as all they see is hitting the target and not the location. I mean, why not at least set up on the corner?
  10. Cursing at an umpire is one of those for me that is an absolute and automatic EJ. The only way I'm not immediately ejecting is if the other umpire clearly "outranks" me (ie he's crewchief, I'm not, or he's a 20 year veteran and I'm not). Otherwise, I'm starting to drift as soon as it looks like there might be an issue, and once the curse words come out, he's gone and that's that. Coaches do not get to curse at umpires in youth baseball.
  11. I picked one up this year and love it. I wear briefs/compression briefs, then the cup in the jock, then my compression tights. Based on reviews, I wouldn't use their compression, but stick with what you have, and wear the jock under it, on top of your briefs.
  12. I agree with the suggestion to first write to the BOD/League Pres. As you mention, they probably won't do anything. I'd then follow up with something to the District Safety Officer. In my experience, this person is usually very on top of things, and will force the league to take care of it.
  13. I HATE this play. Might be legal, but it's totally bogus. Especially if we're trying to improve safety in baseball, as there's nothing safe about this, whether it happens at 2B or at home.
  14. Yep. If you feel like you call a big zone (which would be appropriate, given the age level), follow that up with "I expect to see the batters swinging the bats."
  15. Yep. I do quite a bit of LL Minors, as some of my umpires are apparently "too good" to do minors, which leaves me doing it. I'd much rather be behind the plate, as calling balls and strikes from behind the mound is the worst, as is dealing with the fair/foul issues. Over half of them are 1 man, but it is what it is. I do "love" the fact that she's videoing games at this level to then forward them to the board. That's a special kind of "special".
  16. Exactly. I don't understand the whole "this is offensive to our country/flag/anthem", but I'm certainly not letting them pull this when there is a ballgame to be played and it's my job to make sure that the game does get played in a timely manner.
  17. While yes, what a catcher does certainly affects what we see, I'm not calling strikes to reward the catcher. If the catcher sets up a couple of inches off the plate (say on a 1-2 count) and the pitcher hits the glove, I'm not calling a strike for hitting the glove. The pitch is outside.
  18. And not just in our current times - the number of people in this discussion is going to be a list of the all-time greats.
  19. Good on the coaches for ensuring the safety of their umpire.
  20. Had a LL game last night, VT brought in a new pitcher mid-inning, HT 3BC called his players together from the bases. I informed HT I was charging them their offensive conference for bringing their players together under 5.10d. I could've sworn that I've seen an interpretation stating that I was correct, but am not finding anything online, and I could see how, given the wording, that since HT didn't actually request time (VT did), that they shouldn't be charged a conference.
  21. I'll take the right call over the storm.
  22. I had a pretty good one on Saturday in a LL minors game. Pitcher struck out 9 of the 11 batters he faced, only one to reach was batter #11. Unfortunately he was 8 years old, and had a pitch count of 50, so even if he'd gotten batter 11 out, he wouldn't have been able to finish his perfect game, as he had passed 50 on batter 11. New pitcher comes in, throws two pitches, game over after 3.5 innings due to home team being up 11-0. Total game time, 75 minutes.
  23. Took one in the left thigh yesterday on a ball the 10u catcher didn't even bother moving the glove for. Luckily the kid didn't throw that hard.
  24. As far as position for U1, once you see the possibility of a tag play, don't you have to move more towards the 90 degree guideline so that you have a chance of seeing the tag?
  25. I ejected the assistant for yelling at/arguing with the umpire, though counting calls also could have been appropriate. I probably could've tossed the manager too, but he hadn't caused any problems that game, no one would've known why he was tossed, and there were two outs left in the game (in which the VT was down 9-0). League presidents can't manage or coach in All-Stars, but they can for the regular season.
