  1. Okay, well here I go.. Plate Rig: Nike Titanium Mask w/ TW black pads Richardson 6-stitch wool hat 7 1/4" Oakley RadarPath Lock sunglasses Nike Pro Combat undershirt Wilson WV Gold w/ TW retrofit Honigs, Smitty, or Majestic Shirt #18 Ultimate Belt Nike Pro Combat Compression Shorts Shock Doctor Titanium Cup w/ Old fashion jock Nike Pro Combat long black tights Nike Dri-Fit Black Socks Honigs PolyWool Plate Pants Patent leather belt Two Smitty black ball bags Wooden Brush UA Lineup Card Holder Honigs metal indicator All Star System Seven Shin guards New Balance 460 polished plate shoes So thats the plate rig for any game basically. The bases are all the same clothes pretty much. A few differences: Nike Mock short sleeve undershirt, Honigs Base Pants, New Balance stopwatch, New Balance 950 Base shoes or Nike AirMax+ Black shoes, and/or any jacket on the market on a cold day. I have all sorts of extra equipment, but this is all my currently used gear.
  2. Google lists him at 5'5" Which means he's probably wearing shoes, and even then still a generous height.
  3. Welcome Daniel! Thats true passion right there, umpiring as a volunteer just for the love of the game! I respect that!
  4. Haha. I always had a little pine tar in my glove in one certain spot, on top of constantly using the rosin. I have extremely dry hands and would always need a grip. I would get in trouble for going to my mouth a lot to lick fingers, but would usually just blow into my hand or something if it became an issue. I didn't do it to alter the ball or put anything on the ball, it was simply because I hand such dry hands! I could care less about how the ball was, I just needed a little grip to get a good hold on the ball. Never was a huge issue with any umpires I ever had though, maybe it's because I knew them all. Haha.
  5. World Series Crew: John Hirschbeck (crew chief), Mark Wegner, Dana DeMuth, Paul Emmel, Bill Miller, Jim Joyce.

  6. CONFIRMED BY MLB!! "Umpiring crew for 109th #WorldSeries: John Hirschbeck (crew chief), Mark Wegner, Dana DeMuth, Paul Emmel, Bill Miller, Jim Joyce."
  7. I'm not a big fan of the Platinum, but when you put it that way, all blacked out and with TW, that this is flat out sexy.
  8. I think it would be a great for Jim Joyce and a redemption for him, since most fans primarily know him for his one bad call, and not for the great umpire that he is. He deserves it. Plus, who doesn't love 9 innings of listening to him call strikes?!
  9. Here is a source-full, rumored list, that should be confirmed sometime soon. Personally I'm only sure about Emmel and Hirschbeck. Dana DeMuth Bill Miller Jim Joyce Mark Wegner Paul Emmel John Hirschbeck No word on the CC yet, but it's bound to be DeMuth or Hirschbeck in my opinion. We'll see if this is accurate or not soon.
  10. The Wilson non-wrap arounds don't end up forming like that when actually strapped in, they look more like how TW do. To me, It looks like he's wearing some very basic and generic black stock pads of some sort. The shape of the bottom pad on the Dynalite honestly looks like a Diamond branded solid/plain black stock pad. I took the one I had one time and put it on my Dynalite and it looks the exact same. Another idea, it might be the Nike stock pads, without logo. It's the same general shape and size too.
  11. NO. Any catcher I've ever asked hates it. I don't do it, and I don't think anyone should really. Plus, if a catcher and umpire start to disagree or begin to argue throughout the game about B/S or anything else, it makes for an awkward scene to still go down and put your hand on his back. I've heard of a catcher being ejected just because he turned and said "get your f***ing hand off me!" Moral of the story, don't.
  12. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/major-league-umpire-wally-bell-dies-of-heart-attack?ymd=20131014&content_id=62954126&vkey=news_mlb (Video of Joe Torre and Gerry Davis after the game on his passing + Article) RIP Wally, and condolences to the Bell family and friends. As GD says, they (we) as umpires take our brotherhood and fraternity very seriously and are a tight knit group. All umpires lost a brother today, as well as a extraordinary, tenured professional umpire. I was shocked to hear this as he was so young at only 48. You will be remembered Wally, and I'm sure they will be wearing your WB patch just as soon as possible. It's not only a sad day in the world of umpiring, but in all of baseball.
  13. I was waiting between pitches once and a foul ball from another field shot right over two fences and drilled me. No one knew where this random ball came from. After that, next pitch, what happens? I get hit with that ball too. Awesome inning.
  14. I generally will leave it alone unless it becomes a problem, or someone says something. I don't care so much about the depth in the box, but if they start to crowd in and over the plate a little, I will tell them quietly to scoot back a bit if there is no line visible anymore. This isn't something to pick at, but it can get in your way. When they crowd over the plate in, it jams you just like catcher does a little. Even more so, when you have a R/R or a L/L matchup, your vision of the pitcher can often be blocked and could lead to missed balk, or mess with your ball tracking out of the pitchers hand.
  15. Can't be for pro ball. He was "de-certified" by MiLB. Didn't mean it like that, I meant that he could go for training even if he didn't have pro aspirations, just go for the great training. Exactly. I hope that it does too. The whole ordeal is a long drawn out situation, but after all the dust settles, I truly think JE will come out on top of it all. Time will tell.
  16. Jim Evans 5-day course the last week of October in Arizona. Doesn't have to be for pro ball, but will sure make you a better umpire. Check it out for sure..
  17. I had a game this past season where it was around 40 degrees and 40-50 mph winds, rain/sleet mix off and on, and not a very competitive game... somehow they still played. It was the worst night of baseball I have ever experienced, playing or umpiring. Of course layer up under: Jackets, long sleeve compression, maybe mock neck heat gear shirt if you have it. Gloves are huge. Wear those wraparound ear covers if you have them, those are big too. One thing that helped me out, and I usually don't do except for on the plate, is wear leggings on the bases. Even layer those up too if you can, double sock, etc. Try to cover every part of your body as well as you can. Products I'll recommend are the Majestic Thermal Jackets for when it's really cold, either the Majestic convertible or any of the Smitty long sleeve jackets for cool games or even to layer under them. Find a good Nike drift/thermafit mock neck long sleeve compression shirt, as well as tights. (Or under armor heat gear/etc).
  18. I was thinking the exact same thing. Upon review, I see what Maven is saying. Very close..
  19. I guess it deleted my old profile picture or something.. Time for a new one.

Yeah, from a few weeks ago.

  20. Welcome Collin! See you at TUS
  21. Both. I'll change it up sometimes. I was a pointer forever, but I'm trying to change to all hammer to get used to it for pro school.
  22. Mine kind of look different on one side than the other. Looks to me like it's the way it was sewn. I see what you mean. My upper pad is fine, but the bottom is a little awkward on one side.
  23. A LONG TIME.
  24. All of my plate pants are longer than my base pants. I have a full break with room to spare on plate plants, not sure the exact measurement, but I'll agree, get them fitted with shins and plate shoes ON. Same with base pants, actually wear hour base shoes when fitting your base pants. I'll recommend adding about an inch or so to the fitting of the plate pants for the "riding up" factor. The best measurements are the ones that aren't actually measured, rather they are tailored to you. Coming from working at Men's Wearhouse and seeing/doing a lot of tailoring myself now, it's best to actually have pants hemmed to where you want them, rather than go with a 30, 32, 34, etc pre-hemmed length like in jeans. Order Honigs pants unhemmed, I've heard they never come out just right. My two cents: Buy unhemmed, take to professional tailor/seamstress, put shoes (and shins) on, have them mark them, sew them, and you should be good to go. Try them on before ever actually wearing them in case something isn't right. Also, ask them to leave 3" in the bottoms to ever have extra fabric available.
