This came up in my meeting last night. Not my game, but once ya'll discuss it I'll tell you how they ruled. R1 on first with one out and batter at the plate has one strike. Runner goes on the pitch (high and outside). The batter swings at the pitch so hard that he spins around and ends up standing in front of the catcher who goes to throw but doesn't release the ball. Why he doesn't release the ball is unclear, it could've been because the batter was in front of him or he thought he couldn't beat the runner. How would you rule on this? If you need any more info on the play just ask. FED Rules BTW.

I'm not sure which post you are referring to, but the bolded is, in general, incorrect for Fed. He is established in LBT until he establishes himself in DBT. You are not considered to be in DBT until both feet are on the ground in DBT. If a fielder dives from LBT, catches the ball while airborne and then lands or falls with both feet in DBT, I have a catch and a one base award for all runners (unless the catch is the 3rd out). my bad, i meant to conclude that with "and falls into the dugout."

Mississippi is any color w/ charcoal grey pants and navy/black wool or pro mesh cap, black shoes. Partners must match colors. Most common is black and power blue once it gets good and hot.

My association teaches to state "ball four" and watch the runner run to first (also gives your partner time to get in to B). That way batter, F2, and you all know it was ball 4. Some guys even follow the batter down the line a little. Everyone's on the same page, play ball!

Yeah I've got nothing more than a foul ball there. Same thing applies if he's trying to make a catch over the dugout wall. He can reach in and both feet stay on the ground, but if both feel leave the ground - foul ball! He has to be established in LBT.

Fill out information at the site and checks are mailed from the school/school district and usually have the check within a week. Summer league/ Little League games are cash on site or check comes in the mail the day after game.

What about a bucket that read your count to you? All you have in your hand is a jeopardy type clicker. Click once for ball twice for strike. Every time you change the count, it read the ball, strike, outs to you through a built in ear piece. That'd eliminate all these umpires that stare at their indicator like it was gonna run away if they look away.

I know we're in OBR here, but let me ask an FED question real quick on the first sitch. With one out R1 misses second and is out on appeal. 3 runs score and we have two outs, correct? I don't think FED has any stipulation on the BR passing another runner on an appeal. Now let me ask this. In FED lets run scenario 1 with 2 out. The appeal at second is a force play for the third out so therefore NO runs would score on a HR. Am I correct? if not correct me. If I'm understanding correctly if the appeal is a 3rd out on a force base then there's no timing and the runs can't score due to out #3 being a force out.

I personally don't think its fair to any pitcher to attempt to call a game from behind the mound. The players put in the effort to play a good game, so I'll take the sacrifice of a little extra equipment in order to be able to call a fair game for them.

I still use "sir" when I address the guys older than me in my association or have been at this longer. I get the "Sir is for my father" response a lot lol, but that's just how i was raised.

Caiate(sp?) = Shut up. i don't think anyone covered that one. I wouldn't take being told to shut up as an umpire in any language haha.

I would like to try a UE, but unfortunately i have to be cost effective as well. The Champion looks good and I've seen nothing bad about it. Oh and it fits my budget lol

I've already introduced myself in another thread I started, but I'll do it again since this is the appropriate place for such a thing. I'm a second year umpire with the Hattiesburg Officials Association in south Mississippi. I started last year on a whim really and wanted umpire. I never realized how much fun this would be or how much I'd actually enjoy it! Anyway, I like to learn new things and get opinions on some things I've already learned. I like to hear what others have to say so maybe I can try it and if it works for me stick with it. I have a lot i want to learn so i'll be all over the boards asking and reading. See ya'll out there! I've been looking at the one that Jocko suggested, has anyone ever used one? The reviews on the site sound good, but I always like an in depth opinion.

I have a Diamond ix3 chest protector and i was wondering if anyone else here used one and what they thought of it. I've used it for a year and i was wondering if this was a good one to stick with for the long haul or if i should be saving to upgrade sometime in the future? I like the CP but it doesn't have any actual plastic for protection, just high impact foam. I call HS and down at the moment so its not like I'm doing any major college ball. Not to make this post any longer, but I just wanna say that I'm new to the site and love it so far. I've learned so much just in my first day of reading and seeing what you guys think about different situations. I hope to learn as much as I can! Thanks! Name's Terry by the way.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong on this one, do any of you guys call close strikes on players not even trying to swing? I call them baseball watchers as opposed to players. Like on a close first pitch you'll side with a ball but if he just stands there on every pitch maybe you call a strike on the same pitch to get him swinging? Like full count and he hasn't taken the bat off his shoulder the entire AB. I want the game to move along and I don't want give the impression I'm gonna let them do this all game.
