He slid through the base for no other reason than to contact the fielder as stated in 3. 2. I don't see how you can call that A "BONA FIDE EFFORT TO REACH AND STAY ON THE BASE" Tough call. Surely a judgement call. But it sure looked like a intentionally late slide with no other purpose than to take out the fielder standing behind the bag.

Girardi's frustrated. How can he not be given everything that's gone on these past few days? Leyland's press conference remarks were the voice of reason. Bottom line..Get the 3rd out and take care of business yourself. Make the call a non issue. Umpires didn't let the next three pitchers give up 3 more baserunners. However, I do wonder about U2's position. 1.Why did he have to run so far to get there? Where was he? (I'm not familiar with pro 4 man mechanics so I'm asking this sincerely) 2. Making this call on the run caused him to miss the tag on this play, IMO.

I've had kids come to bat, and F2's apologize for their coach's behavior. Usually goes something like this.."Sorry blue, he's like this all the time". That's sad. My favorite from an F2. F1's missing the outside corner with 4 or 5 pitches to a few batters. Coach starts whining. F2 gets up and yells into his dugout, "Those pitches are all missing outside!" Squats back down and says "Sorry blue, he gets like that when we're losing" :Spit_20Laugh:

If I'm getting this correctly, in your sitch the balk would be enforced, because the play (CI) did not result in the criteria necessary to ignore the balk. (All runners, plus batter runner advance at least one base). So here we have a balk, R2 to 3rd, batter still up with the same count as before the balk. The answer as to what to enforce is completely dependant on the situation when the play is done. Example..R1 and R2, balk/CI, swing and a miss. Enforce the CI because all runners and BR advance one base, ignore the balk.

Had one this morning. Beautiful morning. 60's, sunny. Great game. 4-3 with the winning team scoring 2 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th and holding HT scoreless in the 7th with bases loaded 1 out. Game 2, 15 minute drive. As I'm driving, it's getting cloudy.
