I'm in an argument with someone, and I cannot believe I even have to call for backup for this one. Situation: Batter hits a little pop up that lands a third of the way between home and third, landing on fair territory. The ball bounces, and the spin carries it up and over the foul line (still between home and third), where 3B grabs it in midair. The ball is clearly over the foul line when he catches it, but it never touches foul ground. Fair or foul? I may need to clarify here: So the ball touched the ground in fair territory before passing 3B, bounced across the foul line because of some wicked spin, and was grabbed in midair while above foul territory, but has not passed 1B or 3B. It never touched the ground in foul territory. -
Wow ...this is close, ...and replay confirms his call ....but... I'm not sure. Also, ...... watch where he gets stuck behind Butler .... What do you do here? Do you say "Billy move!" Colleagues, Don't know where I saw it--might even be mis-remembering. USSSA 8U, One-man crew. Batted ball bounding slowly down the 3rd baseline. Two bounces fair and begins to spin foul in the air. 3B, with both feet in fair territory reaches over the baseline into foul territory snatching the ball in the air about 10 feet before the bag. Wheels to first and throws. I call fair. No one bats an eye. Was I right? A subsequent conversation makes it seem like I'm wrong.
