18U tournament, ok quality of play today. Strike three on the outside corner/outer third, right above the knees. After the punchout, kid turns and yells fairly loudly "No f$#%% way". Immediately toss him with a rather majestic heave, and it was absolutely quiet, eerily so. I knew the coach at 3B would need an explanation, so walk up slowly and just say "The exact quote was 'No f@#%% way". He didn't say a word, nodded, and turned around. Still hadn't heard a peep from his dugout or even the fans till one person in the crowd (on the player's side) said "oh yea, he said it alright".

Kinda  threw me for a loop how smooth and unquestioned the whole thing went.

At that age, not sure I'd toss just for that comment, but stern warning for sure.  There was no personal insult, "you" or "you're", not that that's the only reason to toss, just saying.

Did you toss simply because of the F bomb, or also because of how loud it was?  If so, if he had said "no damn way" instead would you still have tossed him?

At that age I toss immediately for the profanity and if he said "no damn way" I shut him down immediately. I've had kids softly say f bomb or something because they missed a pitch etc. I quietly warn them that I don't wanna hear that again. But turning and loudly f bombing me? He gone. Most coaches that are worth their salt are going to light that kid up once hes back in the dugout. You don't get to argue at HS level IMO.

Yelling out extreme profanity in direct mocking of a call, loud enough for everyone to hear? Sure seems personal. Even if you don't consider it personal, it's unacceptably arguing balls and strikes in a very public and demonstrative way. If said quietly, maybe - just maybe - that could be a warning, but a minor yelling it out like that? Gotta get that one.

Sometimes the "you" and "you're" is implied. This is one of them.

I think "No way" is enough - it's a clear argument of a ball/strike, and it is a loud and public affront of the umpire.   "No way"="you cannot be serious"="that wasn't even close Blue".

But I do agree - if you're gonna eject on "no F*#King way" you should eject on just plain "no way" too.

The gratuitous addition of the f-bomb just makes your argument easier.

Just to make sure I'm understanding you right, It's only because he said it very loudly that you'd eject, right? If he turned around and said "no way" quiet enough that no one but you and the catcher could hear it on his way to the dugout, that's, under most circumstances, not EJ worthy is it?

Umpire discretion, really. I wouldn't, but would reply "Yes way" as he walks away.

Not sure why the 3rd base coach would need an explanation/not sure why you walked up and explained the reason for the ejection to him?

You make the ejection, if the manager wants to know why he'll request time to talk to you.

I did skip a little there, he was slowly walking down and I could tell he was wanting to know. Apparently he was the only person who didn't hear it clearly! I think he was talking to R3 at the time.

Key for me was “kids turns and yells.”  Had he looked ahead or at the dugout and said it quietly, I probably would have had a quiet word with him (warning).  But “turns” and “yells” = the long lonely walk.

I disagree.  [I'm not saying that the EJ in the OP is not warranted at that age level.]

The language in the OP alone is not grounds for EJ on the professional level.  There was no way I was tossing a batter for just saying that (with nothing further) in my MiLB days.  Now, I may yell back and warn him to knock it off.  But what he said was not personal.  He was arguing the call.  He was basically saying, "no F*#King way that was a strike."  He wasn't saying "no F*#King way that you're a good umpire."

If I ejected every guy who said "F*#K" on the pro level, I'd never get any sleep between games; I'd always be up late writing EJ reports.
