Since it's Alaska, I'm sure someone is already trying to make a "reality" show about this.   They've made shows for pretty much everything else to do with Alaska.

I'm thinking that that's alcohol in the umpire's cup because I'd have to be drunk to allow a game to take place...at any level, much less little league...in those conditions.  I hope the umpire(s) have their liability insurance policies up-to-date.

The umpire is doing it wrong. The coffee cup (spiked with "something special", ala @lawump) goes in the left hand, thus freeing up the right hand to make mechanics and calls... and stay in the pocket otherwise.

There probably isn't a bag as we know it at the bottom of that splash. I envision it being one of those orange rubber-vinyl bases that were used in gym class, thrown down in some sort of diamond shape, and when you played indoor kickball (Wisconsin, folks... lots of stuff indoors), would soon be moving in accordance to "team" shenanigans.

Is that even a baseball? I'm thinking in conditions like that, a croquet ball is even going to get soaked. Raquetball? Lacrosse ball? Rawlings or Diamond or Wilson have to be making a special kind of ball for you hardy folks up there in the Last Frontier.

It IS a base, crazily enough. And we use normal baseballs, we just change them every play and the batboy has to wring them out in the dugout.

What if instead of having batters run, after they hit they get in a kyak and race around the diamond?

You guys should really petition LL National for some of that ESPN money for field maintenance/drainage.

Don't drink the local coffee, it's disgusting. The coffee shacks are way better than the coffeehouses. Also, don't come in early July or late August (that's when those photos were taken)
