The XV performed well in my first plate the other night. Minor movement, very comfortable, and those holes!!!!! Oh  those holes!!!!! Slightest little breeze filled those holes with perfect coolness!!!! Love those holes!!!!!

If you easily get hot/over heated behind the dish, this is the CP for you! I'm not sure if there is another one out there with this protection, weight, and A/C!!!!

Does anyone have a picture of them selves wearing this CP?

4.11.15_019.thumb.jpg.8e676dcacc700578caThis right out of the box. It's fitting better now.

That is nice!  I would really like to find one for a back up CP. They are out of stock everywhere I look.

You start wearing it, and it may not be a backup for long.

@kstrunk, looks good but the collarbone protection seems to be lacking somewhat. Do you feel it adequately protects that area?

I'm also looking to trade my WVG for one of these in an effort to stay cooler on the field.

Its like a unicorn...I finally gave up and did the WV/TW option.

I'll be honest Mike, initially I was concerned about the collar bones. But following some of the advice from madmax in this forum made the unit fit much better/closer around the neck, so that I now have a comfort level that I think any protector would offer. I've only done 2 plates with it so far, but max has done a bunch, so he'll know better.

Ordered the XV for a backup and just got it in the mail. Wow is this thing light, i mean LIGHT....can't wait to try it out. I intend to use it for the dog days of summer when the protection of my WVG/TW isn't needed, and as light as it is it still feels like it will hold up almost as well. Very solid investment at the price.

Where'd you buy it from? I can't find it in stock anywhere right now.

Don't order from that site, I did and about 2 days later after my credit card had been charged they sent me an email saying they are out of stock until July. They we're very good refunding my money though.

I dont remember which thread it was, but someone had referenced a sporting good store in Northern California that had some. No website or anything so had to call and they sure did and sent me one out that day. 80 bucks plus tax and shipping.

Night and day difference in one critical aspect: padding.

The AiR Flex 2 still uses Brock Beads, arranged in a corrugated, "tubes" vest as its padding. An abdomen extension is included (something the AiR Flex 1 doesn't have), and the shoulder arch plates are pre-curved more than the original AiR Flex. It also places the ailettes further down towards the armpit. The plastic is cast in a charcoal color.

The XV, cast in jet black, features and showcases the TPU/EVA foam that is now in Schutt's football helmets and pads, and is 50% thicker than the Brock Beads. With less material needed to hold the BB's in place, the vest is several ounces lighter than the AiR Flex, with increased standoff distance. I've taken two shots, in particular, that I know would have left me reeling had I worn the AiR Flex.

The XV has become my workhorse, and I've used it for 18U showcase ball. The AiR Flex is now my "spare", and will be with me at tournaments (and CDP) for another umpire to use if they are without one. The XV is superior to the AiR Flex, but the AiR Flex still beats wearing a catcher's CP or a softball umpire's "softie" CP... or a Davishield.

Colleagues.   With all of this hype, I really want to buy one now.  I currently use the All-Star 4000.  If anyone finds it online, please post it on this thread.  Thank you.

You are not going to find one online, but I would suggest calling the people at westcoast  they were great to work with. I posted the contact info above.

@MikeSafari concern about collarbone protection was warranted. I took and absolute shot to the top of my collarbone yesterday wearing the XV and have a fractured clavicle to show for it. An inch farther in and it hits mask, and inch farther out it hits pad, but Ill be damned if it didn't sneak right in between the two. Still finished the game and two more in the field, but wow that stung. First time that has happened in 18 years of calling games.

Keep the WV!! If you are hot you are going to be hot no matter what you wear!

OUCH!

With that ringing endorsement...Ump Attire posted on their Facebook page today that the XV is back in stock.

I disagree on the protection if you adjust the protector to sit correctly for your body type.  I received mine on Saturday and wore it for four plates in two days.  Took a fastball directly to collarbone area that was a messed up signal that barely glanced off the catchers mitt. And didn't feel anything but the initial pressure of a ball hitting my chest protector. Also took a foul to the should cap and it was a non-issue. Very light, very breathable, and seems to have expected protection.  16U mostly in the 70s but the one kid was hitting the low 80s.  I get very comfortable wearing the XV.

That? Is disqualifying to me. I'll stick with my All-Star. Yea, it's a bit snug in the neck (but I the pencil neck am fine with it) but with the curved shoulders, I don't have to cinch up very tight and it's pretty breathable already without putting my collarbone out there.

I had it as high and tight as it would go and still got dinged. There is a gap in protection because of the harness, I can not get it as high up as it needs to be,(and its not like im small at 6 foot 3 250 lbs.)  I still like it and will still use it, but need to retrofit a deltaflex on it some how. The shot I took was one in a million to sneak into where it got, but still.

@Bighouse I don't think you'll be able to sell it on here now. Better try Craigslist or eBay.
