"Legal deception is the whole point of the pitcher position." The whole point? Isn't there something to do with pitching to the batter in there?

If the pitcher isn't deceiving the batter, why does he throw curve balls? changes ups? different arm slots? off speed w/ same arm action?

They are all forms of deception.

Funny.. the pitcher is never trying to deceive the batter... i t's the runner who he is trying to deceive.

That's a joke right? Why throw change up and breaking balls which all (the good ones anyway) look like fast balls out of the hand?

de·ceive

diˈsēv/Submit

verb

1. (of a person) cause (someone) to believe something that is not true, typically in order to gain some personal advantage.

There's a difference between not knowing and being deceived.

The batter does not know what pitch is coming. It does not follow that the pitcher is deceiving him.

The runner doesn't know when F1 is going to throw over either, or what move he's going to use.

How about a curve ball from the same arm slot as a fastball?

Or a change up with the same arm action as a fastball?

There's a lot of density going on in this thread.
