I'm about to order my Douglas and I can't deside if I want that extra flap on the shoulder and how far down I would want it to go down my chest. Any comments?

Cajun,

How big are you ? Height and Weight, and ... Suit size if you know

I'm 5'-11", 260lbs. I now wear a 2x shirt. I'm a big boned guy. I have lost most of my gut. I have a 18.5" neck and I'm about 20" across the shoulders. I'm thinking in going to go with the 13" because that would cover all of my ribs. What do you think?

15" no question. I'm 5'-11" and 225 and have a 17.5 neck, and wear a 46 regular suit, and I have a 15" in both the Douglas and All Star. No offense Cajun, but a 13 won't cover your bottom ribs

That's why I'm asking. I hope to get down to 220 this year. Good to know, any comments on the extra shoulder protection?

Go with the adding the gap protection. You may never need it...but if you take a shot there, you will be glad that you added it.

I just ordered mine today. Jeff said I should have it in week or two. I can't wait, that's the one thing about ordering things online. It takes time to get it....

For info on the Douglas 13", check out the Midwest Ump review at http://midwestump.blogspot.com/2010/12/review-of-douglas-umpire-chest.html?m=0

I emailed Jeff Cook who stated that the new Douglas is identical to the old, except the color change.

Mark...I was thinking the same think. I like the fact that both the wilson and douglas have the ankle protection that hold firm around the ankle and does not flair. I HATE the flair at the ankle with my Honig's. I have taken a couple of shots to the ankle area and it is not comfortable. The hesitation I have with the wilson's is the weight and bulk...

I believe that Douglas started doing shins when they started the original West Vest, yes? If so, the assumption is probably true ...they did the prototype of the WV shins .... and like the CP, it lives on ;)

Thunder...I'm sure they did. The Wilson's have a reputation of tank-like protection...along with the bulk, weight and heat of a tank as well. I want protection but I still have to be able to move....

I have the Douglas, with no extra protection.. that gap is so small that a ball cant even get in there...

All right... read carefully: The ball does not get through; the plates' edges cave in and crush your shoulder bone.

Let me put it another way: The ball does not get through; the plates' edges cave in and crush your shoulder bone!

Jeff,

I had an original Douglas West Vest. What are the differences between this model and the original?

I doubt I buy one, I have two Carluccis that I am privileged to own and use, but you never know!

Thanks!

I've only got one... :notworthy:

Jeff,

I am just lucky kind sir!

The first item I ever bought off ebay was a set of Carlucci shins/protector, for a pittance.

The second one I just purchased last summer from another member of this agust board, along with a bag, shins, shioe bags, and a mask with padding Cece made himself.

Nothing better has ever been made, includuing the Power and the original WV.

Ah please,

I used to have a Riddell Power. The Douglas I've had for a couple seasons is the 2nd best protector next to the Power, IMO. I really enjoy the neck and collarbone protection. Haven't had one in any "gap" yet. I've taken some pretty decent shots and they all bounce off like bullets off Superman's chest.

I miss my old Douglas leg guards. Hey, Tim...can I have them back? Just kidding, no givesy backsy's, I remember. :smachhead: That's okay, my Reebok 11K hockey shins work great and I've never felt anything but pleasure wearing them. :home:

i agree tghe riddell power is the best ever made in my opinion...i bought mine in 1992 from honigs for 150 bucks back then...used it for years and got suckered in to sell it to a D1 umpire in mephis in 2004 for 125 bucks and his wilson...the next day i regretted selling it and i still do

I just want to say I recently got my black 13" douglas modified with T-Hooks and Trim.. Not only does it look good.. the t-hooks allows the CP to be very snug to my body! Also I went with the royal blue trim which looks awesome. My partner yesterday has not only ever seen a douglas, but he said it was the coolest looking CP he's ever seen. I just want to thank Jeff on here for doing a great job.

Also I purchased the 15" leg guards which I used yesterday and by far the best leg guards I've ever owned. I'm glad you guys are back in business... I'm a huge fan.

Got myself a pair of Douglas leg guards because it was an absolute must that I had another pair to rotate with my brand new All Star Leg Guards :rock

I will break them in on Tuesday unless I get rained out.

My name is John and I am a gear junkie.

Mind giving us a comparison and which you prefer?
