Would also buy the Shin Guards but wow I can't afford that price right now!

What is it with Shin Guards lately and their prices????

I dont get it either. I dont get how the black Wilson shin guards go for around $100 (which isnt a bad price when you think about it - Im on my 6th year with them I think and they are going strong) and these and the All-Star ones are around that $170 mark. I understand the made in USA thing, but they arent they just assembling those in the USA?

I'm with KF. It's a shame that they did not address the shoulder protection issue. I wouldn't wear one if it was free just because of that.

I wore on last night and every night i work the dish, and I see in DI some 90's... I have been hit, but like i just said in the last post, that gap is too small to worry about.

Jim Wolf trusts his @ the MLB level............

You would use it at any speed until you get drilled at 90-plus in the gap between the shoulder and clavicle plates. Then, you wouldn't.

I'll take my chances. It fits me well and protects fine.

I guess you don't digest useful information very readily. As with any intractable person, I wish you all the luck in the world, because you need more luck than a pliant, reasonable person.

Useful to you doesn't always mean it's right for everyone. You deal in absolutes far too much. You do like the attention though, considering there is a nine page thread about your silly bucket.

Same here.

Maybe there's just a few with a bit larger gap out there.

Matt,

True. There are, I'm sure. The best way to help this without getting the gaps is simply telling Jeff Cook you want your CP built with the shoulder pads as tight to the collarbone plate as possible without hingering motion :D

ZM...

you do realize that SOMEONE ELSE asked Kevin to post about his bucket don't you?

Yes, because he brought it up in the first place.

Jeff,

I had an original Douglas West Vest. What are the differences between this model and the original?

I doubt I buy one, I have two Carluccis that I am privileged to own and use, but you never know!

Thanks!

Just a little. I get cranky with people who whine about other people's choice of chest protector.

I absolutely wish you luck.

(And don't enter psychology; it's not for you.)

Correct: It was brought up casually, in a separate post. Not in an attempt to get attention.

What is the difference between someone who recommends NOT getting a soft-shell CP (just about everyone here), and what Kevin had to say about the Douglas? Nothing. They are observations usually based on experience, nothing more, nothing less.

Whining?

It now looks as if you're making more of this than it is. And if so, YOU'RE the one drawing attention. :HS

No difference, but I don't go around constantly reminding everyone that a specific protector is inadequate for certain pitching velocity. I don't care what people use. I've seen guys use Honig's K1 protectors in college games. I didn't say anything to them because it doesn't make a difference to me.

That's fair, and understood. However there's a difference between the bolded portion and what we're talking about.

What's being discussed here is a personal experience. Based on that experience, an opinion is being shared on a website forum. If you experienced something negative with a piece of equipment, would you share it on the site in a forum discussing the piece of equipment you had an experience with?

Thank you, Thunder.

I couldn't have said it better. I didn't know that making a simple warning about a flaw in a CP's design could turn into such a petty personal dispute.

Thanks for injecting some accuracy.

We have also deviated way off the OP.

Let's get back on track!

I'm about to order my Douglas and I can't deside if I want that extra flap on the shoulder and how far down I would want it to go down my chest. Any comments?

Cajun,

How big are you ? Height and Weight, and ... Suit size if you know

Chest protectors are like condoms.....

· One size does not fit all....

· What works for me, might not work for you....

· Choose wisely, because if you use the wrong one, it will eventually cost you!

I'm 5'-11", 260lbs. I now wear a 2x shirt. I'm a big boned guy. I have lost most of my gut. I have a 18.5" neck and I'm about 20" across the shoulders. I'm thinking in going to go with the 13" because that would cover all of my ribs. What do you think?

i ordered a 13" and i'm 5'8"

I am a similar build to you (actually an 1" shorter) and the 12" WV Platinum did not go down nearly long enough to cover all of my ribs. Based upon that experience I went with a 15" All Star.

I seem to have a long torso and short legs so it is really hard to say without knowing how you're built in that sense. You may try measuring with a cloth tape from your clavicle to your belly button or the bottom of your ribs to get a better idea.

Why not ask Douglas for their advice?

15" no question. I'm 5'-11" and 225 and have a 17.5 neck, and wear a 46 regular suit, and I have a 15" in both the Douglas and All Star. No offense Cajun, but a 13 won't cover your bottom ribs
