  1. My legs/feet are suffering from an idiot who did not take very good care of himself when he was 1st diagnosed with diabetes in his early 30's. I have neuropathy all the way up to the top of my knees. I also suffer from chronic dehydration, I do what I can to fix it and some days are much better than others but I see the ability and control of the legs diminishing daily. I'll be 51 this August and I honestly give myself to 68... Its a bleak outlook but I am Meh about it. I can only control what I can control. So if I buck up and push myself maybe another year or two, but at what cost?
  2. 8th? year now and well no not yet but I am battling a different thing. With me my legs are going away bad. I been predicting for the last 3 years that I will need to end soon. This year maybe my last just based on how my legs are dealing with the few games I have done. That and my right ankle swelling up for no problem that I know of. Sigh.. so yeah I, after taking off 2 weeks due to ankle concern, am rolling back into it this Saturday with a real feeling this is my last season.
  3. I have 3 pair of these already and love them.. Meh whats 2 more 😃
  4. Southern Tennessee Fabled Umpires
  5. I had a night game opening day last year and it was nice and they were playing music . I asked them to lower it which they did. Then one of them says I got something to play for you. I turned around and said "If you play 3 blind mice I will eject you now before the game has even started" both of them looked like they saw a ghost and said well er nevermind... /grumble this is what happens when they let the kids play the music... sigh
  6. The coaches always go to the actual Umpire as we are in charge of the whole game and have been told with the Jr. Umpires we can overule a bad call by them by just doing it. Hence why they tell us. I want help on that call. I went to him and discussed it with him cause my view was blocked and I wanted to hear what he saw..
  7. Almost sounds like he knows you.
  8. If Op never spoke to the assistant and only chatted with the players while he was at the fence. Then maybe the players lied to the assistant coach and He retold the lie. At least that's how I read the OP. But other than that. Heh.. Coaches lie all the time. They will back a play or call or whatever to boost their team/player. They may know 100% you were correct in your call but its their job to make sure the players are performing to their best, not to boost our morale cause a player was upset about a call or their team was.
  9. Last year we were told we were getting cream shirts for the State Tourney... meh they looked like a light yellow.. But we all wore them cause we were told we had to. I carry it around in the truck with me. I may break it out if I get a scorcher of a day and I am solo doing a double.
  10. Ok So this thread must have been a sign. Last night, **sniff**, I had a partner..... **Sniff** Thank you, So yeah Jr umpire from the clinic we put on late last month. He is of course totally Green I stuck him at 1st and taught him A-B positioning and when to be in A and when to be in B, Left 1st and 2nd to him and took the rest myself, As he had never been on the field before. He did "ok" Of course needs work on mechanics of signaling and a to be more vocal. But he got several calls and all correct. There was one "controversial" call Hot shot over F6 but he was able to jump and grab it. R1 had taken too many steps towards 2nd and there was a throw to F3. R1 arrived at the bag same moment the ball did, but it hit R1 in the back. Now from my position looking up 1st base line from 1b extended I saw the ball strike the runner. ( thats nothing ) at this point he is safe. Now when he got struck his foot popped up off the bag momentarily ( I assume from pain) I did see that. What I could not see was due to him turning slightly to face me was the fielder in his attempt to field the ball had his glove up against his back and the ball upon striking the runner fell into his glove. Which was touching the runner. Now the VT coach went a little vocal and was upset when My partner called him out. I could not see the tag. Its 1st base. Not my call... Had I been alone I would have called him safe. Coach asked for help. I called time and conferred with my partner. I say OK what did you see. He tells me the runners foot came off the bag after he got hit and the fielder had the ball in his glove touching the runner at that point. I tell him what I saw which was everything but his portion of the tag. My angle did not allow me to see it. Ok he's out. I tell him you make that call again now.. He signals and says "Out" VT coach was upset but we moved on... overall a decent game 5.5 innings in under 1:45 I know I missed 3 strikes called them balls maybe a 4th too... All curve balls that I said Ball.. then when I stood I went in my head "Idiot that hit was over the outside corner"... Sigh.. Oh I found out I had a partner 5 minutes before 1st pitch... so yeah .. LOL
  11. To protect the offense, Ah yes it is coming back to me.
  12. I would like to be enlightened. I know the facts that when 1b is occupied less than 2 outs a batter is out and not able to try to take 1st on an uncaught 3rd strike, and likewise with 2 outs and 1b occupied they have the opportunity to attempt to "steal" 1st base. I however do not think I have heard WHY this is.. Although I do know Who is on 1st. So please spell out why for me.
  13. You guys get to work with a partner? Oh man... I have not seen another soul out on the field since Playoffs last year.. 😥
  14. There are rules against the catcher moving to pitch after 4 innings of catching. I think that is the only restriction, unless of course a player has pitched already in the day or previous day and is not allowed due to inning restrictions
  15. Then R2 is out.
  16. grr wish they were half a size larger
  17. See I am envisioning this as it had to pass F5 I cannot for the life of me picture any F5 playing behind the bag. But yeah we actually need to know where F5 is in relation to the ball movement. I almost want to say "that's nothing!"
  18. Yep. They all feel they need to protest for their kids to make the kid feel like "well yeah Coach thought I should have been ok." Meh its LL It is what it is..
  19. Congrats man! We up here in New Hampster had a guy do the last game at the plate last year I thought he did a hell of a game. We also have 2 guys this year doing other WS series from D2 up here as well as a D1 guy going to another Regional? Its great seeing so many guys around getting the chance to jump up and do well. Hey AA Try not to suck! 🤪

    Out or foul

OK I miss read that as the batter hit it with his hand It states the it hits the batters hand Foul ball
  21. We run it as Mud has described it, 12U, 10U The 1st batter up of the half-inning is allowed to be out of the dugout and get ready for their at bat. All other "On Deck" folks are in the dugout NO bats in hand. 13U Game on play it like you would think. On deck batters are out in the on deck circle.
  22. The only way I would approach them after the game is if I had gone back to my vehicle and tossed on an umpire hat. Then approached them. If I did not have anything with me nope would not approach. I would also open it up with some friendly banter about equipment or something try and roll that into a post game break down type of thing.. but nothing too critical. Again though I'm at a WAY different level
  23. Ok, I am joking but I am sure I will take some flak here but whatever.. A Low flying jet scares all three runners into thinking its thunder and they all sprint for the dugout once crossing into the dugout they are all called out for abandonment.
  24. Got some ink.. Cool! https://www.wmur.com/article/nh-little-league-statewide-free-umpire-clinic/43420415
