  2. Heh.. 10U fall ball Friday night my 1st game of a double header.. 3rd inning I notice in my line of sight as the pitcher is staring his wind up. F8 throws a large clod of grass. call the pitch, call 2 more pitches and now F8 has MY attention as he has now thrown 3 chunks of grass .. No way is this just a large clod of discharge from a mower. He is now kicking the ground and pulling up 6x6 chunks of sod. What the hell is this kid a landscaper. "BALL- TIME" take 2 steps towards defensive dugout... "Coach come here please" Coach "Whats up something wrong with the catchers gear '?" Me "No coach check out your center fielder, he's out there pulling up the grass and well sorry I need to ask you to have him stop that please" coach " ARRRRG" after that half of the inning ended we both went out there to survey the damage and he was running from hole to hole and stomping down loose sod. Coach "Why did they give me all the trouble makers" Me ( knowing already he is a cop ) " What do you do for work?" Coach " I'm in law enforcement" Me "Well I guess they knew YOU could handle them" LOL...
  3. From what I heard. LL is done with taking DA's and etc. word on who is a really good umpire. They are now holding evaluation classes and etc. and even having instructors invite nominated umpires to their area if local to do games in front of them. 1 for critique and 2. for instruction. Least that is what happened in my area. It worked well and they do weed out Umpires whom they feel are not up to snuff, whether it be they are not doing the calls like they instructed and or just do not handle the pressure of a situational game like that well. Which imho knowingly being evaluated can and will put more stress on an umpire. Its not that big game but it can and will induce pressure to perform. After that they were called to a camp later on to go over calls and rotation and etc.. Myself being introduced to this rotation, I wont say it was new to me but yeah I had not done it before.
  4. Someone at the broadcast should pull up the website and direct the idiots that announce on TV to this screen which when read aloud would show what DOPES the announcers are.
  5. Well then either they added that in, over the last 2 years or the fella's I was listening to gave me horrible info based off that note. /ponder
  6. What rule # are you using? I was using 7.10 the 1st note It uses home plate as the example but we were told 1st base would be the same. If a kid thought he was out and started trotting back to the 3rd base dugout he is not technically out for abandonment until he steps into the dugout. At least that's how they described it.
  7. Need to start getting leagues to use these for HSM Would love to see the smoke coming from LL
  8. MLB or even MiLB yeah sure.. LL nope they have to enter the dugout or some out of play area 1st
  9. That is awful whomevers dad tied that on should be kicked in the groin.
  10. Ok not the same but you get the point? https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/news/story/parents-file-lawsuit-league-after-sons-bunk-bed-99378944
  11. one thing I dislike the pattern on the grass...
  12. and a bent elbow allows for inconsistency in stance building not to mention faster muscle fatigue
  13. Yeah He missed that one. That was inside the outside batters box for sure. but uh... was that the only pitch he missed? I watched my buddy Rob do the Mid Atl championship Watching it on TV I counted 3 that I went OOO Rob you missed those Still they rated him at 96% I think So meh 3 pitches.... Yeah we all want perfection but um.. Did I mention these guys are volunteers?
  14. Something to note they look as though they accommodated with the line as far as camera position the line starts at the glove which looks like its 1/3rd into the batters box BUT when it hits the box line in the front its barely inside the box I would go so far as saying that ball is on the line of the out side batters box enough so it hits the line (just barely but maybe)
  15. Where is was caught behind the plate by the catcher. But what was the path of the ball? Do you have the whole pitch? I am just going by the photo provided.. I have not seen the game nor any video so its hard for me to judge that honestly
  16. Yeah we were taught straight out. This ump has that heel toe stance I was talking about
  17. Foul signal used to be up a bit more they want it now at shoulder height fingers together 2 stop signs Stance they want you now "comfortable" same repeatable stance every time. straight on box stance, not turned inward. Or you can heal toe it but then you're supposed to tuck one arm ( I do not use it so I cannot recall which arm). They no longer ask you to get down eye level with the top of the strike zone. Oh forgot yes elbows locked so it is solid . These are all 12U One thing you need to think about also... Where is the camera? that camera is not centered and yeah I would based on where it was caught say it was out side but where was the balls path and how much worse is that camera angle making it look?
  18. This type of play I will shift to point of bag and knock the base coach on his arse if he gets in my way.. ( just kidding but I have "moved one before")
  19. Is that not CI instead of BI
  20. I know a handful of guys who got them this year. THEY ALL LOVE THEM.
  21. Jim I would not say this is an apples to apples thing. The runner kicked the glove causing it to dislodge from F3 in your example its a sharply hit ball taking the glove off the fielders hand. I have this as an out. Whether intentional or not a BR or runner should not be able to pull, push or kick a fielders glove off. Prior to that the fielder did appear to have his foot against the base and the ball in his glove. BR is out at that point.
  22. It's funny one of our top ump's in the state saw a guy "sell" a close play and he told him "great job" I mentioned at school they told us never to upstage the players by doing something really outrageous. The 3BU had a close play and he stepped into the throw of a punch out nearly into a split to emphasize the out. I considered that over the top for an out call. The UIC told him it was a great sell on a close play. left me scratching my head. Do I listen to Bristol guys or do I listen to my State Districts UIC.. Fast fwd 5 years and now I am hearing yep sell it a little if you got it on something close from both places.. well Ok now... I know its ok
  23. Close play "whackers" I get angle and best vision that I can ( same goes with any play ) but I also LISTEN.. Thud Smack runner was safe Smack Thud runner was out.. You know the difference between the foot fall on the base sound and the ball hitting the mitt sound. Had one in the 10U State champ at 1st this year that confused the hell out of me. I saw out never heard the ball smack the mitt. paused paused ok I see the ball on the ground YES YEEHAAAA I got my timing right.. SAFE Balls on the ground... Always recall timing get was the foot on the bag and where is the ball, is it still in the mitt... also what did you think it was I had him out, CRAP NOPE the balls out few glad I did not bang bang that call..
  24. Yeah LL allows pitchers to do things that make Umpires of other higher leagues go cross eyed when the see it. BALK! er no Um Illegal pitch er um No.. but but but... yeah No!....
  25. My take.. with pausing and rewinding and having several looks at the video. Something the PU never had... I have that's nothing on F2 at about, or around the 2 second mark BR and F2's feet get together as F2 crosses over, and behind BR. At that point this happens. F2 to me has 1st Fielder position on the ball. To me, he has a better look, and ability to field and proximity to the ball. It's not until 2 to 3 seconds later when BR has bit the dust and the video opens up and the ball is further away from the plate ( IMHO) that F1 could be considered a better closer fielder.. however by then the tangle is well done and over with. my 2 cents.. I was 1st leaning towards protecting the runner but slowing it down and looking at it over and over... that is what I see.. Again something that PU never ever had the luxury on. I say bravo to him for that quick reaction of no call.
