LL State Champ 10U here in Newhampster all I heard was a handful of chirps on strike or ball calls from the losing side and only 2 out of the 5 I would have said. "Well ok that is pushing it" But after there was more than a handful of fans that praised us and told us we were the best crew they had seen all year.. I mean THAT felt good. Losing side telling us We were awesome. Sorry you had a bad time from due to fans, players and coaches whom should know better.

Not one knuckleballer.. Not two knuckleballers...

Heh at my level I am happy to see a slider a curve ball and a 2 seam fastball along with a 4 seam and the 3 o'clock curveball. Which looks like it will hurt that kids arm and the coaches are yelling at him to "stop that and throw over the top" Heh have not seen an actual working knuckle ball in LL used to see a lot in BabeRuth and Legion but not in LL.. I bet its cause the ball needs just that much more velocity to really work well. -
Guys I was arguing it from the batters standpoint.. I mean the poor bastard did not even check swing and he is out... My point was made not trying to argue it was an actual foul tip .. it was joking frustration from the poor batters eyes..
-
So was that with 2 strikes? I would if I were the batter call that a foul tip if I had 1 strike or less but Damn.. 🤣

R.I.P. Tom and condolences to his family and friends. Again the shortage of Umpires is also hitting Heaven and God is pulling them up there to officiate the Real Big League.

Giant brings up something else critical. Did he put a toe into the dead ball area of the dugout? If so he cannot return to the field/base at all legally. Op your description is a little hazy on that "area"
-
Yea they need to have players go back to using their team jerseys.
-
Oh the players uni's... um who here cares what they wore? 🤣 I was wondering about the 3rd team
-
Well the hats are the rest of the uni seems ok from what I see
-
Condolences to you @MadMax and Connor's family, as well as the rest of the folks whom knew him. Sad indeed. Maybe there is a shortage of good umps up there too and the big guy just called him up to the big league early?
-
Yeah I think you are visualizing something different than I Like I said what he did was more akin to what I did as a kid just the pitch I grabbed and caught was at directly at my side and the pitch he did not catch was like 8 inches behind him and not inside the batters box.
-
Put it this way it may not have been completely conscious, more likely a reflexive compulsive thing. But it was behind him so far he got his fingers on it and not his palm and he was not able to catch it. It was that far from him. No I am not rewarding him nor penalizing the defense because a batter reached out to try to catch a ball that would have never hit him otherwise.
-
Yes LL The situation that happened is what happened to me 40 years or so ago except my situation the ball would have hit me in the shoulder and I let go of the bat and instinctively caught the ball. Umpire told me I should not do that. Well Based on flight of the ball and etc I would now knowing what I know awarded me in that situation 1st base. WHY cause it would have hit me. The situation I had behind the plate the kid reached behind himself at full arms length on a lobbed pitch that he barely got his fingers on and Did not catch it and it never ever would have hit him had he not reached out to touch it.

I was thinking Carolina? Also thinkin that would look Sweet with a powder blue shirt and some grey ball bags
-
Dude you can have a defensive reflex to catch the ball. This is what the kid did and he did so on a ball that never would have hit him otherwise. That is not a HBP that is a kid moving into the path of the ball with his hand on purpose.. Think about it.
-
Hmm I thought it would be #44
-
I can imagine if a player/coach mouthed off something like "you going to call a crappy game like you did last game" at the meeting/ Yep/ bouncem right there...
-
@beerguy55 My judgement was that he attempted intentionally to catch the pitch and it was 8 inches behind him and a non breaking ball. You cannot in any level reach out and put your hand in the path of a ball which would never hit you and expect to gain 1st base. Let me emphasis this. If the batter had not reached out for the ball it NEVER would have hit him. I am not penalizing the pitcher and or defense for a batter doing that. Now if he had reached straight out towards the pitcher on a pitched ball that would have hit him.. YES he gets 1st base as that is an act to actually protect himself. I cannot and wont do that for a ball that is clearly not going to hit the batter at all
-
I do believe it was a defensive reflex yes. But it was a defensive reflex BEHIND him. He was not in the path of the ball and he reached out and nearly caught it. I will not reward anyone for doing that EVER. The pitch was well behind him and he reached out in an action that purposely put his hand in front of it and it never would have hit him if he had not. That is to me akin to someone sticking an elbow out in the strike zone to get hit. if the ball was on path to hit him I would have awarded him 1st base but it was clearly behind him and not even "close"
-
Why the ball was 8 inches behind the kid and he actually stuck his hand out in front of it almost in a catching like motion. He therefore in my judgement was not acting defensively because he moved into its path not out of it and by my judgement it was not in the batters box it was behind the batters box.
