I guess it's up to folks like you and me to try and put an end to it. I'm running a clinic for a couple of leagues next week, and put an end to any such nonsense locally. I'll do my best up here in Vista.

No, it's not a Little League "thing". Informing the pitcher of the outs and runners on is never taught in official LL teachings, and only done in my area by the under educated. I do see it at local travel tourneys, where the typical umpire hasn't gone to a one week, nor has any formal training. Again, this just my observation of my area. YMMV.

New Contender for Umpire's HSM, Bucket Heads Rejoice!
kylejt replied to MadMax's topic in Umpire Equipment
I'm not sure why they didn't extend the cage over the forehead, as that's always been the weak spot of all HSM's. Wilson did it as a one off, and F3 finally included it. -
I've got several extra mask bags that I used for my plate shoes. I put my dirty shoes in one, and have clean ones at home to swap out. Turn them inside out for easy cleaning.
-
Off topic, but I use the +POS individual bags for my plate shoes.

2021 LL Southwest Region Tournament Assignments
kylejt replied to dumbdumb's topic in Youth Recreation Ball
Well, seeing that CO, NM and LA are listed as having umpires assigned, I'd say probably. -
For my Junior Umpires (mine are down to age 11), I've got the Champions and a S/M Wilson Gold. The Gold is much smaller, and works well for the smaller kids. And yeah, they can use a raft if they wish. Don't DON'T DON'T use a catcher's chest protector at any level.

And we wonder why foam and plastic costs so much! Lawyers!

Circling back to LL rules, the manager can remove a player from the lineup with no MPR implications if done so for illness or injury. I'd consider bat launching a temporary illness, cured by practice. But, with no real rule to lean on, I'd give the manager two options if they object. Eject the player, or EJ the manager for unsportsmanlike conduct(why would you leave a dangerous player on the field?), and see if the "next" manager will remove the player. But in my experience, bat flingers might do this for just one game, for unknown reasons, and then just stop. It seems to come out of the blue for some kids. Typically 9-10 year olds.

All-Star Cobalt Chest Protector vs. CPU4000 - Real-life experience
kylejt replied to Rock Bottom's topic in Umpire Equipment
Those pops I took on camera were nothing like the good blows I had taken earlier, to do some proper comparisons. The kid didn't want those filmed to be later used against him to answer to charges of elder abuse. -
All-Star Cobalt Chest Protector vs. CPU4000 - Real-life experience
kylejt replied to Rock Bottom's topic in Umpire Equipment
Bat? Naw. Baseball Gorilla glued to the end of a graphite golf shaft, swung with glee by my 6'4" son. https://www.facebook.com/groups/376616286660443/permalink/399206824401389 As for real world shots, it's really, really hard compare those as no two blows on the field are the same, and so much time passes between them. My study tried to get similar blows in a short period of time. -
A lot of us wore all sorts of non-umpire plate shoes in the olden daze. That was until the NB450 came out, and revolutionized what we wore, and expected from athletic shoes.
-
First, would a good cobbler be able to extend the life of your Reeboks? In my experience, some of those folks are magicians. My latest version of the NB's run true to my 10.5 size, unlike past versions of NB's (especially the old 450's)

Champion tights from Walmart. Thin, with a great waistband. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Champion-Men-s-PowerFlex-Tights-P0880-407Z98/327485559 Me, I want that protection from ankle to the top strap of my shinguards. I even wear them as on the bases in the heat, as they seem to keep my legs cooler. The down side is the shinguards will rotate around a bit more on the slippery material. I did the long soccer socks thing, but found them too sweaty.

Well, they sell last years Chevy's at a dicounted price when the new ones hit the showroom floor, right?
-
If they were coming out with a newer version, logic would say they'd be lowering the price to empty stock on hand of the current model.
-
Living in San Diego, most dry cleaners know this, but my uniform shop, where my LEO gear comes from, does a great job on proper pants hems.
-
I like to call time when it actually speeds the game up, but doesn't take opportunities away from either team.
-
Mine's coming next week. I have a CPU4000, a baseball Gorilla glued to the end of a golf club shaft, and a 6'4" son who hit a drive 320yds last week. Stand by.
-
How well does that hat-helmet stay on when pulling off your mask, and busting down to third? That would be my chief concern. I just saw some recent "film" of the whole contraption coming off of an MLB umpire, as he was making a call at home.
-
That's interesting. I've got TW's in my Rampage, and that setup fits my face just perfectly. But as my TW's age, I'd certainly entertain the WindPact's.
-
What didn't you like about the Rampage?
-
I wish, but we're just not that big of a market, so we get catcher's hand-me-downs for the most part.
