Do you carry your rulebook to the field?
BT_Blue replied to Dragon29's topic in Youth Recreation Ball
agree, unless you cant... like the field I am working at this Sunday. They, for some reason, only open one gate to get on and off the field... which just so happens to be through the first base dugout.:angel4: -
So, when I move to Portland, OR on September 1st. Do I need to put a "hi from Portland, OR" message on the introductions section? :angel4:

Doesnt hurt to call. And from talking to Jim, he is really good about taking care of his people. As long as there isnt anything wrong with the protector or it doesnt smell like its been worn for the whole season, I dont see why you couldnt try and work something out. You might just have to pay the difference and shipping there and back.

For shame!!! LOL Honestly though, in my case, I was gone from the forums since the end of June for one reason or another. I come back and have to weed through the stuff I want to read and the stuff I dont. Sometimes it just hard to do.

The only exception to this is NCAA and FED were you are, by rule, supposed to meet at HP with the manager's only (unless there is extenuating circumstances).
-
Why do you think I didnt watch it past that... I have issues watching Regis for the 2 minutes they were talking to the umpires... let alone the hour or so long the show is.

I wish I had gone when I was planning to. I was in college but not enjoying myself and honestly not putting in the work I should have for my education. But life gets in the way. I met a girl and decided to go after her rather than go after being a pro umpire. Sadly the relationship didnt work out and I have still yet to go to pro school!

my whole thing is, why not grant the check swing appeal... The worst you can get out of it is another strike!

The problem with mine is that it once qualified for the Clunkers program. Then they changed it so that the version of the car I have doesnt. So I seriously "cant get out of Dodge"! -
You could always call Jim. He might we willing to trade it for something else... maybe a WV Gold.

Only had this once. Adult ball game at a college campus. With one out in the second inning the college softball game right next to us started the anthem. All issues were taken off of me when the pitcher stopped, walked off the dirt of the pitchers mound and removed his cap. We all followed suit. It was honestly one of the most classy things I have ever come across.

Not as far as I understood it. The requirement to re protect the same player is they have to be in the process of picking up the ball again. There was a play two years ago (video is on here somewhere) where a pitcher misplayed a line drive. The ball bounced off him and into the path of the BR. Contact was made and if I remember correctly the BR was thrown out. I think we, on this board, came to an agreement that the fielder was not close enough to be re protected but if the ball was closer he would be.

Oh boy. Everyone, please let this not become a "deceiving the runner" thread!!! For me, for the most part I agree. I too think the 3rd to 1st move SHOULD be a balk... but it isnt and hasnt been for as long as I have been working. The only thing I really look for is the step (distance and direction) and then let the rest fall where they may. Also, just to stop this before it happens... yes we have already all decided that you can not balk to second base... its credited as a balk elsewhere. Its something that has gone into ad nausium on both this and other message boards.

Out here, we are allowed to wear what ever colors we want. As long as we match. The only thing now is that they are moving to charcoal pants only starting this year. I have both but am more than happy to look better wearing charcoal. However, once you get to the semi-finals or finals, I believe that its Navy and Charcoal. I could be wrong... especially since I havent made it that high.

Im waiting for the size of the Reebok emblem to go down... even just a little bit. Does anyone else know if they come in a wide foot? I like what I have heard about both the plate and base shoes but Reebok runs thin and like all other things in this great country, I run a little wide.

Another U-E/Internet Umpire Hook-up last night...
BT_Blue replied to Majordave's topic in Free For All
I get to do this too come at least January when I get to meet guys like Elfordo, Widac, and the in-famous (thats more than famous right?) Mr. Tim_C -
There was a week during the summer season, where I got plunked on the inner thigh on at least once per game. Lets just say it hurt like hell... and for that matter it started while taking warmup pitches behind the catcher between innings. And this week or so I had games every day including 3 DHs.

For HS we pay $4 (used to be $3 two years ago) per game. Other places do charge some money of some sort from the umpires. Others take it from the league. Cancellations you are required to find yourself a QUALIFIED replacement. If you have to give it back to the assignor without good reason (ex. death in the family, have to appear in court, your death, etc.) then you owe a fine that could be as high as the game fee itself. Also 48 to 72 hrs to accept the game is more than enough time for games to hang in cyberspace before they get reassigned. Whether or not they do is another story.

Dont worry about it to much Stan. No one watches the Pirates anyways:clap::fuel:

Wasnt there something in FED (might just be here in CA though) that says, in situations that have to deal with rules (this one could possibly), you can bring the two HCs together and talk to them about it. In my mind this is a rules issue as if F1 stepped off then you have BI, if he didnt then you have CI and you issue the option to the offense. Of course you dont mention this until later but still. Now I know Im going to get heat for this, and due to things being packed away my move at the end of the month, I do not have my HS casebooks/rulebooks/etc. Maybe someone can help me out.

I have a bit of an issue with blindly picking joe-blow out of the stands cause he says he is mini-joe's dad. In particularly since these coaches have signed waivers with the league stating they are responsible for these kids under their charge. I say ring said bell and let the league worry about what happens there. If there is a decision to make about continuing under this situation, it will not be mine.

It does make sense that that would be so would it not? We are all following behind the MLB trends. Lets not forget that it was but a short 15 or so years ago that the new navy shirts came down the road and the ebelco shirts got fazed out. Then they brought in the alternative red (AL) and light blue (NL) shirts. Then they went to the black and people were in an uproar about the change in colors (Im guessing because we all want to be identified with the MLB guys and we just went out and bought Navy and Red and Light Blue). Now we all accept Black as the standard color of baseball umpires. Cream has come and gone (but still a favorite of mine) and the MLB Blue (or what ever you want to call it) is the norm as the alternative for black. Its kind of just the way it is and Im surprised that it took so long for MiLB to follow along with the color change.

Just look at the NCAA and the new additions to the INT rules. Such as the fielder becomes "re"protected after a boot as long as they are in the process of picking up a loose ball.

Try and do it with in 24 hours after the end of the game. That is about the point when I begin to forget what I wanted to write down or what happened.
