John, Semi-final game home team down one and the Visting F1 is looking to make the last strike of the game. Never look at the kid, I saw him coming due to the LH BR and said to myself "Oh $&!#". The ball was a foot outside and the kid slide right under the pitch. I go "Ball, Safe, the pitch didn't touch the batter." The rat for the vistors goes that hit him and I repeated what I had just said. The Vistor lost 11-10 with runners on 2&3 and a big gump at the plate hits a chopper to F6 who sails the ball over F3 and the winning run crosses the plate, if F6 takes his time and throws I'm still out there.

If R3 attempts to steal home and is hit by the pitch OUTSIDE the strike zone (LH BR so he has a clear path to the plate) is he out or does he score? I do know that if there are two out and two strikes (which is what happen to me last night) and R3 is hit by pitch in the zone the batter is out and the run does not score but what if the pitch is a ball (like in the other batter's box). Look forward to your comments. :agasp_:

MST, so in OBR I have the Starting F1 being sloted into the 8th spot and the DH becoming the F1 and remaining. IN FED, I stop everything call for the illegal sub and restrict the Starting F1 to the bench for the remainder of the game? :a100posts:

Unless we are talking slow pitch softball, in which the runner can be hit by a ball while on his base, I have INT on R2 and a DB with BR being placed on 1st. This is HTBT sitch but the fielder has the right to field any hit ball and it is up to the offense to get out of the way. That is why we don't call a runner out for running out of the baseline to avoid a fielder handling a ground ball, correct? I wouldn't call it a DP unless R2 actions were intentional.

Was that before or after "tie goes to the runner"? Warren, Did you at least write up the ej? Since he was practicing being a moron, you should of work on your writing skilz. :givebeer:

Warren, The coach must of been working on his parking lot walk. Did you get this assignment through the teams or your assignor? I know that when I do scrimages I'm mainly there to call pitches, make outs and rule the ball in play or not. The coaches don't even give crap about my calls. I did one scrimage where one of the coaches started complaining about my zone being too low and I informed the coach that I was going to discuss my zone and he should work with his hitters on hitting that pitch (scrimage mind you) well next inning he brings it up and I pointed him the way to his car.

In FED once your in the batting order at the start of the game you are locked into it, correct? And once the DH comes into play a defensive position the DH is gone for the rest of the game, correct? So the pitcher must bat when the DH slot is removed. So the Pitcher would have to assume the spot that is being taken over by the DH. SO... Smith stays put in the lineup at the 5 spot and becomes F1, Davis enters the line-up in the 8th spot to replace Clark. In Fed, Clark can reenter the game as the F3 and bat in the 8th spot. Davis would be Clark's sub so once Clark re-enters Davis is done for the day. In OBR if DH comes in to play defensively, the F1 assumes the batting spot of the player being taken out. I know that this happen in a Tigers/Angels game a number of years back and also happened this year to the Rays when Maddon screw-up the lineup card.

Dano, Even if he has an open stance when he comes set he still have to gain distance and direction when he throws to first. I think your fear is that he will spin on the non-pivot foot, and if he does it's a balk. Good coaches will bring him back square and have the catcher call the pick just like MST stated. I can almost promise you that if F1 goes to 1st in an open stance it will be slower than if he was more square. Reason being he has poor balance.

Stan, I like that. I usually tell the coaches that if they have a question to come and talk to me because I will not respond to yelling across the diamond.

I fired a kid that did that.;)

Mo, All I saw before I got block out was movement by the pitcher that looked like a step off, poor lighting and two big kids in front of me while I'm locking in for the pitch did not help. I will admit I may of gotten some tunnel vision due to it being late in game #2. I know next time I going to make sure that I see the pitcher. As far as parents umpiring, these coaches and parents are a bunch of rats and I would not have offer up anything because of the firestorm it would create. I did run into Divison President after the game and inform him of my "lovely" night. I have umpire other games of his (17 U) where I have a GREAT Partner:clap: and he likes the way my partner and I call a game, so he understands what is involved and where I stand. My Partner is a retired teacher has done all levels of ball HS, College, Adults and at one time worked with a MLB umpire before he went pro. I consider him my mentor. ;)

When your at work and the boss is at the door you don't get the chance to spell check.

Why is the coach for the team in black not in proper uniform. It looks like he just came from a golf outing. Isn't that highly illegal in NCAA?
-
Did he give you suggestion on how to calm him down because I would love to know that.

So are you saying that his pivot foot went behind the pitching plate(step off)? If that is the case no balk, he's a fielder. He properly disenaged the plate.
